I think we should keep Hayes( functional player) Hill and Patterson (future starting and back PF, good combination) Miller (backup C) Martin Battier (resign a small contract) Lowry Terrence ( maybe the base of Rockets in future) trade with the others and get something back. if we can get an super-All star, we can trade with guys listed above, but it seemed impossible for us to get one. maybe it is a good choice to give TW more opportunity. However, he is an 11th pick.
we're in hell. not good enough to matter. not bad enough to find ourselves with a high draft pick. we need 2 stars to be contenders. right now, we don't have 1.
His game is fundamentally flawed, great he can score efficiently. But his game is not build to ever win in the playoffs. His just to damn reliant on refs and pumps fakes. And his not particularly great at breaking someone down off the dribble in iso situations, which is needed from at least one of your wings or SG in order to at least compete in the playoffs. But In Martin's defense, I think he would have been a great addition to Yao(had Yao stayed healthy) given his amazing ability to shoot and play off the ball.
Martin is a fine player. He's a spectacular shooter..provided you set up him up, because he isn't going to earn his own shot (unless it's at the FT line). He would be fine on a team with some legit stars. But I would. not. hesitate. to trade him if I thought it would bring us an alpha dog type player. The preseason discussion about, "I wouldn't trade K-Mart for Carmelo" looks dumber every day. Don't let 45 fool you though. Scoring for a bad team doesn't say much. We've seen that over and over again. Unfortunately, we tend to overrate our players because of it.
This, they're the only talented players, maybe throw in Ish as Playmaker. I only see Martin good with real stars where he doesn't need to play defense and can shoot all open jumpers. let's say with Miami. He can be lazy on D, the Big three create open shots for him.
Sorry, but I think they're dangling every player including those three. Not sure if the person who started this thread doesn't know that, or just thinks it's that easy to get other teams to trade with you. It takes two to tango.
PG--Two (oops, three) undersized PGs won't do in the league today. Sorry, AB, you're a good shooter but that won't pass muster against the likes of Paul, Williams, Rose, Wall, even Patty Mills. Let's give TWill a try at the PG and SG spots. He's shown he has court vision and good passer. TWill is too short for the SF. In fact, last night, when the Blazers were doubling Martin, we could have used TWill's ability to break down the defense to get his teammates easy shots. Man, RA is simply not thinking during the game. SG--Keep Martin. Elite scorers like him don't grow on trees. We can dangle CLee as trade bait. He's underutilized playing behind Martin. TWill can back-up Martin too. Keep only one of CLee or CBudinger. SF--Keep SB; he's the vocal leader of the team. But he has to give up his starting spot to an SF upgrade. CBud is too soft to play the SF in this league. PF--Sorry, Luis, we need defense at the starting PF spot. JHill needs the experience before being called a bust. It's RA's inconsistency in playing him that has slowed down his development. CHayes and PPat, c'mon, trade one of the PFs. C--Morey's waterloo. How long before DM actually gets us a center? Fans can endure one year of mediocrity, but c'mon, not this year too!
much of this is the result of the false optimism generated by eeking out 4th quarter wins against the kings, clippers, and wizards. the "momentum" gained from those wins doesn't hold up when we play teams actually competing for a playoff spot and now everyone's pissed. fair enough. usually the only upside to watching a lottery team is that you get to watch your young talent develop. right now, we're getting a bit of that (patterson, hill, budinger, lee) but our newest project twill is still limited in favor of battier. but of course we know this team likes to showcase players before trading them. twill will get his after the trade deadline. it's entirely possible that many of our older players will be gone at the deadline (yao 30, battier 32, jeffries 29). would love to include miller (34) but c'mon... no one's going to take him off our hands.
Martin/Terrence combo at the wings would be great. K-Mart is a keeper, the rest? Not so much. Those Morey steals are awesome, sure. But we can't build a team around that. When your team is based entirely around the kind of steals that we have seen from Aaron Brooks etc, you know your team has a serious talent problem. You don't see legit talent falling below top 10 in drafts. This team needs a firesale. If any of the lottery teams are willing to trade their draft picks, i.e. we give Aaron Brooks for Sacramento's or Toronto's pick, then we should by all means do that. In fact, I'd trade everyone on the roster for Josh Smith and rebuild around him. And watch the top 5 picks fall like rain
I'm starting to wonder if Jeffries had sex with Adelman's mom. Jordan Hill can be pumpfaked by a hiccup.
100 percent correct. If he continues to do well, his trade value will be better around the Feb deadline. The expiring contracts are valuable too. Luis has some value for a contender as well.
The problem is that Scola really isn't a starting PF. He's a back up. A very good one and for specific uses. His limitations are too great for him to start against every line-up in the league. We saw L.A. light him and Hill up last night. So he doesn't have a lot of value. Neither does Brooks, nor Chase, nor Hill. None of these guys are going to be stars. Brooks may have had some promise but he's seemed to have leveled off in his growth quite a bit since his sophmore year. If you notice the trade talk, it's always that "The Rockets are very active and looking to make a deal". That's a good sign we're desperate. No one is coming to us. No one is showing a lot of interest in our assets right now. We're the ones calling teams and trying to do something. In other words, it doesn't look good. What I feared most about going for solid, good players and making a team that way, is that you end up as a .500 team. And that's what we are. We need more height and more concentrated talent...not a collection of guys who were underestimated coming in and turned out to be good 6th, 7th, and 8th men. We need starters. We need a few super stars and 2 or 3 very good players. K-mart is one of those "very good players". Brooks, Lowry, Scola - are good but definitely in that 3rd or 4th tier. We have great guys. Play hard, very coachable, the right attitude. And that's awesome, but it's not enough on it's own. Morey needs to start taking a lot on guys who have more upside and less about being ready to play in the NBA.
