Monta's shooting percentage is lower and free throw percentage is lower than Martin's. And his team has fewer wins. Eric Gordon is comparable to Martin, but his team has fewer wins. D-Will is a point guard and his scoring is lower than Martin's. Ginobli? Seriously?? Westbrook is a point guard and his scoring is lower than Martin's. That leaves Kobe, Chris Paul, and even though Parker is a PG who scores less, I'll grant him all-star status. So the 4 guards should be Kobe, Paul, Parker, and.... MARTIN!!
Uh, there is no way that Kevin Martin should get an all-star spot over Ginobli, Deron Williams, or Russell Westbrook. All star spots go by guard, forward, center, not specific positions. Ginobli is the best player on the best team in the league, has come up big time and time again in the 4th quarter and in the clutch when games are decided, and plays great defense every night. Russell Westbrook averages 22 ppg and 8 assists on a team that is 10 games over .500. And he plays defense. Deron Williams averages 22 ppg and 9 assists on a team that is 12 games over .500. And he plays defense.
Come one guys, come on. I just as most of us here would like the most Rockets players in an All-Star game as possible but come one now what is Martin going to do in the All-Star game? Is he going to penetrate to the goal and fake someone in the air to draw a foul in an All-Star game? The refs swallow their whistles. Wait all players play no defense, Martin might feel right at home then. hmmmm
Duh.... there will be 4 guards on the team, regardless of whether they are listed as PG or SG. You sound like you never watch games but only listen to other people. Martin plays Defense. How many times during a game do we hear "Great defense by Martin!"... I suppose the announcers don't know anything about defense.
For a shooting guard, it's the top stat. I like how some people think defense is only played by Shaq.
That's funny, I was starting to get the impression that the haters out there are in the 10-15 age group and only know what ESPN tells them. ..... I'm 60 years old, by the way.
Yeah, we hate all those extra points. Let Kobe and others flop for them. Not our players. No... we hate free points.
Martin: 43.2 3P%, 89.5 FT%, 26.7 pts/36min Wade: 31.3 3P%, 74.2 FT%, 25.0 pts/36min Martin must be a better SHOOTING guard than Dwyane Wade.
The problem with Martin in terms of his argument to get in the All-Star game is the fact that all he does is score. He doesn't fill the stat sheet in another way besides scoring, and for someone that is pretty much an exclusive scorer his scoring numbers don't jump off he page enough to make up for his lack of other stats. Even with the 45 point game last night he's still not even top 10 in the league in ppg. Factor his team is not successful hurts his chances even more. If he could get his scoring average up to 25ppg and the Rockets be in the 6th-8th seed in the West then it would really help him but at this Point is argument is not strong enough to get in the All-Star game.
He could be 1-dimensional on the stat sheet and still make All-Star games if he was known as a tough player and someone that comes through in crunch time, and/or if he was ever on a successful team. When a guy has never starred on anything but a mediocre or bad team his entire career, he needs to be doing something extra special for coaches to take notice and select him. Its just how it goes.
This whole argument is complete ass. Most shooting guards average more points than a point guard. So Westbrook and D-Will shouldn't make the all-star team over Martin because they score less but Paul and Parker should? Terrible might be the worst argument I have ever heard on this board and that is saying something.
