Actually what probably is better than D&D are LAN parties... you can play whatever networked games you want and have interaction.
do you feel safe here? <img src="http://www.google.com/url?source=imgres&ct=img&q=http://wescottridgecondos.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/garage-door.jpg&sa=X&ei=IkYlTbzdLoavnAfu2fjbDQ&ved=0CAQQ8wc&usg=AFQjCNErmEbUpapN9f7a-KYfFvegoiPVQQ">

For a "power gamer" maybe but for me a good Pen and Paper RPG was about the story, which a DM/GM could customize to match the players personalities. In a pen and paper RPG your character could do anything you could if you had your characters abilities. It wasn't a do X, Y or Z decision tree format. Admittedly MMORPGS sometimes have a whole lot of choices for you (mainly with regard to how you attack)....but it is still a relatively finite number of choices as opposed to a game run by a real live DM who actually knows something about the particular players he is playing with. ...and I continue to earn more ClutchFans Pariah points...Maybe I should just shut it...lol Rolls Saving Throw vs Geekery- fails miserably- double damage.
I found the footage... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/j_ekugPKqFw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/j_ekugPKqFw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
You can do that playing MMOs too. I think you sell the MMO -- or at least the potential of the MMO -- short. I'm really impressed with the power of the network effect you can get from players interacting with each other in a genuine (and massive) way. They are a bit less story-intensive as a D&D module can be, I'll grant, if you had a DM with the talent to execute one.
Damn D&D nerds derailing my awesome Weezer thread. repped errybody... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dTlK3UVkK8Q?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dTlK3UVkK8Q?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
You sound like a pretty cool fella. I don't think anyone can listen to the same song every day without getting tired of it, but thanks for your contribution to the thread.
In the same vein, who cares about D&D? I was kidding anyways, you guys have at it. BTW, I'm only one point away from my next bar, if you wana help a brotha out.
MMORPG's can be fun but can never replace Pen and Paper gaming. In Pen and Paper gaming, I can have my character hand everyone he meets a pickled goat's foot, and have a cow hang around with him if he feels like. I can have him customize his armor, and weapon to some kind of cool heraldry that can play a part in the story. The things my character can say to an NPC in a pen and paper game can be totally off the wall, and he'll get a response. In an MMORPG that just isn't true. If a group of characters want to tunnel through a wall in a dungeon they can try it. In an MMORPG there might be a place in the dungeon where it's programmed but they can't attempt it anywhere they feel. In a MMORPG the party can work to establish themselves as lords or nobles, and the DM can create adventures that stem from that. There are some things in MMORPG's that touch on the surface for that kind of stuff, but the MMORPG just isn't tailored to the characters as much. I don't play D&D currently, but I would if I could.
