Because tanking KILLS teams. Less fan interest. Culture of losing. Less attractable spot for free agents. There is no guarantee of getting an elite player with tanking. People need to get this out of their heads. Blowing up the team does not equal Lebron James. Would you really risk it all for a shot at Harrison Barnes?? And if somehow the Rockets do stumble upon a great player.. draft or otherwise.. just think if we could add them to this current roster rather a dismantled 20-win team. We could become instant contenders. I can't handle being the Kings or Wolves or some other team just banking on lottery balls. I love the Rockets. I would like to watch the Rockets. Its entertainment. More than just on draft night. Throwing away the season prematurely is disgusting.
Why not? Don't you want to see us lose? I think we're missing out by not losing more, honestly. I was talking to a Nets fan (yeah, I know, who the hell is a Nets fan) and he said that last summer was some of his funnest days watching the NBA. He said that the hope of possibly getting the #1 pick was a joy like he had never experienced. Yeah they lost the lottery in the end and yeah, he hated the regular season, but he said he wouldn't of traded the experience of that hope for anything.
Because if I wanted us to tank there would be no need for me to even watch the games. Also anybody who wants us to tank should never come on this board and complain about the poor performance when this team loses.
A true fan will praise their team for losing because of what it means for them in the long run. Maybe. Hopefully. Possibly.
I'm not one to bring up the true fan thing I'm just saying I could never pull for my team to lose. Others think differently obviously.
You tank because it 100% guarantees you will have a top pick, and after having a top picks, it is very easy to spot great talent. Just look at Evan Turner..... A guy that played great in college, and his game instantly translated in the NBA. Tanking is as easy as tanking 5 consecutive years, have a top 5 pick in those drafts, and draft 5 starting studs...it is that easy. Call me when OKC actually win something. PeAcE
If possible and can get some value back, I think it is a good idea to trade AB, Jefferis and Scola to get something back. We need to get a C and PG or SF.
IS THIS QUESTION MORONIC?!?!?!?!?!? Yes. But the answer is, you want to win. If the team you're rooting for is losing on purpose, then what the hell kind of team are they?!?!? Win at all costs. If the best you're gonna do is be playoff bound, then so be it.
This is such a stupid comment. Win now. Win in the future. Win whenever you can. NEVER praise your team for losing. NEVER. Stand by them while they're losing, but root for them to lose cause it will help the team?!? You are not a fan if that's what you want.
That was your four thousandth post. Congrats. Are you saying we need to trade a prospect to get a veteran, or a vet to get a prospect?
I think it's easier to root for your NFL team to tank bc the draft order is set in stone depending on your record. Someone mentioned that tanking kills teams. The Spurs have something to say about that. So do the Cavs who have tasted way more playoff success than us in recent years. The Clippers have failed year after year but finally hit the jackpot in Griffin assuming he remains healthy. Denver got Melo early as did Miami with Wade. Durant/D Will/Paul/Rose/Wall..the list goes on and on. You don't have to necessarily land the first pick but landing a top 5 pick in a good draft can turn a reeling franchise around.
Way to point out the exceptions rather than the norm. What if you end up with Rudy Gay instead of Lebron? What if you end up with Al Jefferson instead of Duncan? These guys then play with your 20 win team and congratulations! You have a team on the level of Memphis Grizzlies/Minnesotta Timberwolves/Sacramento Kings/Philly/Pacers.
no, it's win now, lose in the future and lose now, win in the future. that's why you should praise your team for losing, you need to teach them how to be strategic. that's why true fan's learn to love losing, because they're smart and they know what's best for the team. I'm joking man! ugh, I hate having to say that, totally ruins the joke. I thought I made it pretty obvious that I wouldn't have to do the disclaimer. I mean, cmon, love losing? Who would say that?!
I think tanking does make sense in some scenarios, but not in the Rockets' situation. I think Morey explained it best: tanking would increase the value of our draft pick but decrease the value of our trade assets. Given that we have quite a few trade assets, we probably lose more total value than we gain by tanking. If we plan on keeping all those guys to play alongside a high lotto pick then fine, but I'm sure Morey intends to trade a lot of them. I got it.
Because real fans pay real money to watch some really good basketball at least. And the players, coache, gms, owners all feel the same way. On quality teams at least.
