Texans are moving to the 3-4 according to McClain.

As long as they dont try to pass Okoye as a NT. I'm kinda annoyed McClain predicts the same LB lineup that I want to happen.

I keep hearing and seeing Bruce Smith(Hall of Famer) mentioned in the same sentence as Mario Williams. I'm a Mario fan but hall of famer he is not, he didn't sound thrilled when asked about the change on Monday either.

And now the passing on Willis for Okoye looks REALLY bad. I'm not retroactiely piling on - I know nothing about the draft. But man, oh man.......

Mario never sounds too thrilled about anything.

All he needs to worry about is getting healthy and focused on how he can be effective in the new scheme.

I think it's just because Smith played DE in Buffalo under Phillips. He wasn't some 300+ pounder that you normally think of at DE in a 3-4. He weighed 265. Mario weighs 295. And Smith was still productive under Wade.

I think the comparisons are there to show that an "undersized" 3-4 DE can still succeed in Phillips' system and that we don't necessarily have to trade Mario or try to move him to WOLB.

I hope McClain is wrong and that we don't really go into next season with the only front 7 upgrade being a NT. We need to get a real pass rushing linebacker somewhere.

I hope we hardly ever use the 3-4 next season.

last time we were a 3-4, our defense was middle of the pack. i'll take it.

I wouldn't even say it was middle of the pack. Here's how our D ranked in points allowed and yards allowed under Capers.

    2005: 32nd; 31st
    2004: 15th; 23rd
    2003: 27th; 30th
    2002: 20th; 16th

2002 and 2004 were kind of OK I guess, but 2003 and 2004 were pretty bad.

Our best overall year was 2009.

The reason those statistics look horrible is because the offense produced nothing but 3 and outs so the defense was on the field for the majority of the time.

By the 4rth quarter they were tired.

You take the worst defense ever basically...

insert new philosophy (learning curve) - 1 step back
take the few decent players you have out of position - 1 step back

Two steps back so far... as it stands, the worst defense ever (basically) is now significantly worse. Much work to be done. Shortened offseason looming. If you're gonna overhaul the defense you might as well overhaul everything and get a proven coach.

    I hate everything right now.

Nervous about this, but it isn't as if things could get worse defensively

Critical that they get a NT and serious secondary help. No back ups, a legit #1 CB and a money in the bank safety.

I'm very concerned that they're putting the cart before the horse with the conversion.

Back to hammering nails into my head.

I like Barwin as one of the LB's.

We need a mountain of a man at NT, so goodbye Amobi Okoye.

With the 11th pick in the NFL draft, the Houston Texans select LB Von Miller from Texas A&M.

He is outstanding at getting to the QB. Play him opposite Cushing, and you've got hell on wheels.

Barwin will be great in the 3-4. Okoye is bigger than Dallas' NT so... ya.

Outstanding at getting to the QB. In college. Think Selvie. Von Miller is the most overrated guy in the draft, although I don't think he is overrated by the experts, just the casual fans that have seen him play. Yes he is spectacular at the college level, especially in a great scheme that opposing offenses rarely see in the Big 12. Barwin & Cushing is more exciting than Miller & Cushing.

Barwin will be a monster as a pass rushing demon OLB

This could work only if we draft a NT and sign Champ Bailey.
