Hakeem suggesting that we keep the team together with a ticket to Toronto in his back pocket.

Ehh, I only think that applies if you're an extremist wahabbitype muslim like the Taliban. your american sports muslims are a little different; look at muhammed ali; the guy IS an icon!

Hakeem sitting on the scorer's table and taking it all in after winning his first NBA championship.

    Here's an idea..

A statue of Hakeem looking up into the sky (what looks to be the sky...) and a statue of Ming standing behind him with a measuring stick...

I think a full size statue of Dream blocking that one Kevin Johnson layup/slam would be great. :D

The KJ block or the Rod Strickland block would be good.

To be honest, I think it should be a statue celebrating his muslim faith. Maybe in his white suit and hat, or praying. That's what he attributed all of his success to, and that's probably what he would choose. It should be that. Houston could use it.

How 'bout a statue of Derrick Chevious shooting a free throw

or Buck Johnson on draft night when the Rockets selected Robert Horry

or Kenny Smith going bald and still trying to sport that struggling FLAT-TOP:confused:

As a Muslim of the non-wahabbi/Taliban persuasion, i find that statement kind of ignorant. I am as big a rockets fan as anyone else, and probably a bigger Hakeem fan than most b/c not only is he my favorite rocket(with chucky brown a close second) but I also share the same faith with him. But getting back to the main point, most muslims will tell you that a statue of a person is not acceptable, and a plaque signifying Hakeem's accomplishments as a rocket, or just his jersey hanging from the rafters would be enough of a tribute in my book. I just wanted to give some info on the Islamic issue that came up. I hope this doesn't sound angry or anything, its not supposed to.

It really doesn't matter as long as there is a statue of Hakeem Olajuwon. I like this idea and I really hope they do it.

I'm sorry if you find it offensive/ignorant. The last time I heard about prohibitions on 3-D images was about the Byzantine Empire in 10th grade, but I apologize in any event. Anyway, i have not heard of a widespread prohibition on islamic images and have seen many muslims represented in 2 or 3 dimensional terms. I did, however, hear about the Taliban destroying film and detonating statues and prohibiting photographs. I have multiple muslim friends (who I interpret, wrongly perhaps, to not have any abject prohibition, be it religous or otherwise, on such things) who have absolutely no objection to photos, statutes, etc, on any basis. But you, of course, are more than welcome to have a different view.

My main point is that it should be left up to Hakeem, be him black white red brown yellow blue green or purple or whatever, whether or not he would or would not mind a statue.

That is of the prophet Mohammed or God. Normal people can be made into icons. Ever watch the news. Saddam Hussein, the Ayatollah, leaders of Hamas. People wave around pictures of these people all the time & their "status" is higher than Dream's.
