Be honest, durvasa. Did you get the idea to start this thread after reading the following post by me (made an hour before you started this thread)?: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5854073&postcount=81 Don't get me wrong, this topic is worthy of it's own thread. But a little credit would be nice.
NO, I'd rather trade Jeffries to make room for a center than just let go of Ishmeal Smith for nothing...
Yes, I did. I think the point you made (his contract becoming guaranteed on the 8th), the past history with the Rockets in waiving good young players before their contract becomes guaranteed, us having 3 point guard options ahead of him on the roster (with Terrence Williams), plus the fact that 10-days start tomorrow made it an intriguing possibility. Credit added in first post.
I always thought that Sean Williams had Josh Smith Defensive potential....but I have to see him play again, there must be a reason for him to be down there.... hope I am wrong and he is still a baller. And no, there is no way DM will let Smith go away, past first PGs are not pruliferal in the league, Ish is the perfect fit for our 2nd unit, he love playing uptempo basketball, he (and lowry when he was with the 2nd unit) is the reason why Hill and BUD flurish on the offense end, he sets them up for good looks, or aley oops, for easy points Just imagine this 2nd unit Hill Sean Williams Bud Lee Ish (yes, I know we need Miller in the 2nd unit because he makes Hill a better player plus he keeps all the young guys concentrated on what they should do) But daamm does that 2nd unit smell like dunks, fast breaks, blocks, athleticism, up tempo basketball, energy.... But yes, we need a 3-1 trade badly, but you can“t rush deals at this point, because you would get raped. PeAcE
Waiving Ish to get a center is the stupidest thing a manager would do. Any team would sign him in a heart beat.
He's a nut job. Or at least he was. I think he's from the Houston area, as well. The guy is a 6-10 jumping jack that is an outstanding shot blocker, and has no discernible jump shot or perimeter skills. So what did he do when he went down to the D-League a couple of years ago? He wanted to play small forward. Some are saying he's reformed after bouncing around the international leagues the last couple years, and he could be worth a shot. Back when he was in the NBA, he was a bit underweight and wanted to block everything, so he was at best a mediocre rebounder. He's averaging 10 rebounds a game in the D-league, but about 4 of those are offensive (2nd in the NBDL, ). His 6 DRPG are okay, not great. For perspective, in about equal minutes, Patterson was averaging over 7 defensive RPG. Williams is an interesting talent, and would certainly add an intimidation presence we seem to lack, but I don't think he'd provide the muscle we're looking for. Then again, expecting to land a starting center out of the D-League is hoping for a bit much.
? We're very close to taking 8th seed in the West. Rockets generally do not tank, and if they have a chance at getting a playoff seed; they will take it.
Sean Williams is the black Chris Andersen, to a T. Nut job, smoked dope, extremely, extremely athletic and unpredictable with plenty of potential to be a rim protector at the NBA level.
Ish Smith is a good prospect. It's a waste letting him go for nothing. But there is a glut at PG if you consider both Lee and Williams can handle the 3rd string job there. So it makes sense letting go a PG and using the spot for a C. Of course there is the possibility of trading Brooks for an upgrade at another position. As for signing D-leaguer or mid-season FA centers, I doubt that we can find anybody better than what we already have now. Sean Williams is a potential reward IF his head has been straightened up. But is he worth giving up Ish? I don't know. And if Morey does have a deal brewing involving Brooks, then he most certainly will want to keep Ish.
....if you ask me the ideal trade for a young center that is possibly attainable that would be perfect in Houston would be Spencer Hawes.
Although he knows we aren't championship caliber, big money comes with playoff games. I'm sure Les wants that bonus.
He's from Arlington... but his dad lives in Houston. - Williams was dismissed from the Boston College basketball team during his junior year, after having been suspended twice during his 3-year college basketball career. - On March 16, 2009, Williams was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after an altercation with the clerk at a cell phone store at Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree, CO that ended with Williams smashing the store's computer monitor. He did not accompany his team on their flight back to New Jersey and was later suspended by the team for two games.
C'mon guys. I'm desperate for some feedback. I'm rookie and can't start my own thread. News on the cables is that Phoenix is on the fence about trading Nash. There have been talks of rebuilding the last few weeks. That being said... Thoughts on the following gamble: Trade Brooks, Ming, Jeffries, Ish, throw in a pick to cancel out the curse of Jeffries Receive Steve Nash, maybe even Lopez? Steve Nash has at least 3 years left in the tank, have him groom Lowry on shooting. Lowry has already been improving on his 3s - having Steve Nash teach him a few more things wouldn't hurt. If Yao wants to sign and return with the Rockets next season, great for merchandise sales, and if he is healthy even better for the team. Target C prospects in draft and hopefully management picks wisely - which I'm sure he will. In the upcoming years (hopefully sooner rather than later) target Ricky Rubio. Which the Rockets have before. Maybe give up the rights to Sergio Lull and/or send over a well put-together package of the Rockets assets at the time. The more and more I see how Morey is building this team, the more it seems he really is pushing the idea of an 11-12 man rotation like in the Euro leagues.
Isn't this the same Sean Williams that was a 1st round pick for NJ? Didn't we want him pretty bad a few years ago? Are we becoming the Houston Nets? (Lee, Williams & Williams) What I remember about him, athletic and blocks alot of shots.... I'd give him a shot, as long as the person he is replacing is JJ and not Ish.
