Dude, the biggest asset Cleveland has is a lottery pick and trade exception. They are in the basement and can't compete until they rebuild. They need cap space and young talent. Trading Varejao and Jamison for an expiring and a young player fits the mold of what they should do.
Acquiring Jamison and Varejao for Yao and Hill gives us a very good defensive big with legit size and it also pushes us back to next year with another $15 million expiring contract to dangle to another team wanting to dump salary. Trading an expiring for a talented player and another bad contract is a good trade for a team that is trying to move to championship level from borderline playoff level. Not to mention, having Jamison spread the floor with Miller on the 2nd unit opens everything wide open. Brooks, Lee, Bud, Jamison on the perimeter with Miller on the high post is ridiculous spacing. No team could effectively defend that. Granted, we couldn't defend anybody either but Jamison is plenty useful offensively as long as he is around. If that unit gets into trouble, just plug in TWill, Patterson, Battier, Lowry, and you've got your D.
Dude, after LeBron left, the Cavs are nothing and need all the young talent and draft picks they can get. Keeping Jamison and Varejao around only hinders there rebuilding and what's the point of winning meaningless games if you aren't playoff bound? Us on the other hand, need a lowpost defender and Varejao fits that perfectly. I wouldn't touch Jamison's contract though, but Cleveland would undoubtfully ask us to take him off their hands. I think we could take Gibson though, since he has a bad contract.
Is there anyway to obtain Varejao w/o the use of Yao's contract? I really think we can use Yao's contract in a possible Melo trade.
I suppose if CLE would take Jeffries and Hill. But I would think somebody else could match or better that deal for Varejao. Not too many teams gonna take on Jamison for an extra year at $15 million though.
I really just threw in the Yao contract because i figure Cleveland would try to dump him with Verajao. If we were able to get Verajao only, then we wouldn't need Yao's contract involved. But to get Jamison, it would be worth it.
When theres a possibility that you would get 30-40 pts night in and night out just from your PF position, that shouldn't matter.
I was shot down earlier in the trade thread, but this 3 way with the Cavs and Wizards makes sense for all parties. With the news that the Wizards are looking to part ways with Blatche after the fighting incident with McGee and Cleveland's interest in Blatche, I propose this: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=24cjqrl Houston gets : Varajao and Gibson Houston sends : Jeffries, Hill, and Brooks Why Houston does this : They get a starting defensive big who is relatively young in Varajao and take on a bad contract in Gibson, who also can pick up the scoring void left by the departure of Brooks. Cleveland sends : Joey Graham, Varajao, and Gibson Cleveland receives: Jeffries, Hill and Blatche and Clippers 2nd round pick via Houston Why Cleveland does this: they shed some salaries from Varajao and a bad contract in Gibson and get a prospect in Hill and get the guy that they are after in Blatche, who could use a change in scenery, and a draft pick as well. Washington gets: Brooks and Graham Washington sends: Blatche Why Washignton does this: they get rid of a cancer who fought with a fellow team mate and also get a legit backup to Wall who can also start because of Wall's injury in Brooks.
Umm.....?? You probably don't know a lot about Varajao then. Varajao is a great defender down low and is an excellent weakside shotblocker, non of which Scola is. A back court of Scola and Varajao would cause nightmares. Plus, he is a legit 6'11-7 footer and Morey's been after him for a while now per Feigan.
This would be a solid lineup with very few weaknesses and we could still make another trade to upgrade our wing position with Yao's contract and some other players as well. Lowry/Gibson Martin/Lee Battier/Budinger/Williams Scola/Patterson Varajao/Miller/Hayes
Jamison is a very good shooter. In his one season in Dallas playing on a championship contending team, off the bench, he gave them 15/6 on 53% shooting and 40% 3 point shooting.
One of the worst trade scenarios I have ever seen.... unless you are a Cav's fan. And no way in hell Gibson makes up for the scoring lost by AB.
I would rather go after Landry (similar playing style to Jamison without the three point shot) and Thompson (similar to Varejao being PF who can play C) than Jamison and Varejao. Not only are those two guys younger but I absolutely hate Varejao. I would like to see how Hill and 2-Pat pan out since I don't see Varejao/Jamison as an upgrade to contender status. If we were making a trade to bring in a defensive, back-to-the-basket center and had to give up a couple of our frontcourt players, then I could live with having Varejao.
What are you talking about? If Jamison gets traded to Houston obviously he's not going to be the 1st or 2nd option...
