Does anyone remember this place, it might be for the older crowd here, or the people who lived in the southeast. but does anyone have any pictures of it, or the inside, i grew up with that mall, and im trying desperately to find pictures online, but nothing, all it shows is the new "center". Anyone have any memories in Gulfgate,? i would love to hear about them. i have pictures of when i went during halloween in 93'.
I remember that armpit. Didn't know it closed down (that was never my stomping ground). Doesn't really surprise me, though.
Here ya go.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulfgate_Mall http://blogs.chron.com/bayoucityhistory/2009/06/gulfgate_mall_in_pictures.html http://pleasantfamilyshopping.blogspot.com/2010/08/subtleties-of-signage.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/51025643@N00/81349251 I'll break a rule here and leach some pics from those sites:
i've lived near it for the past 30 years. so glad they didn't go with a SuperMercado (their first plan) when they decided to rebuild. that would have made the area worse. half my childhood was spent in that mall and movie theater.
I remember going to the arcade and the movie theater.. there was a Mr. McFrugal (or something like that.. 99cent-type store) right across from the arcade.. lots of memories!

My best friend worked at the movie theater at the other end of the pedestrian bridge that spanned over the freeway. It seemed that they were always trying to remodel GGM but it never seemed to work out long term. It's booming now that it's a strip center. The place just seemed like a cave back in the day.
Saw Ghost with a date there in my teens and got stood up once and ended up seeing Graveyard Shift by myself after being stood up. Either you're new at the Interwebs, or you're not looking around enough for stuff you need, sir. Either way, you must try different methods than what you're using now. I entered "gulfgate mall history" on my Googley field of FireFox and one of the results was this here jackpot: http://blogs.chron.com/bayoucityhistory/2009/06/gulfgate_mall_in_pictures.html Gulfgate Mall In Pictures - Chronicle Blog EDIT: also this... Spoiler
Very fond memories of Gulfgate Mall! My friends and I used to ride our bikes there every week for some arcade fun at TimeOut and movies across the freeway. We got in trouble one time riding our bikes down into the underground employee only parking area. Wasn't this the first air conditioned, enclosed mall in Houston?
^ Yes, it's in the story I posted above. Also, check this out about the KILT tower. IT was put up at GulfGate: http://houstonradiohistory.blogspot.com/2008/11/kilt-historical-photos.html . I didn't know that.
Gulfgate is where I saw all my first movies, one of the earliest i can remember being ET and Return of the Jedi.
I used to go there when I was a kid. I grew up in South east. Saw Batman and Jurassic Park at the movie theater there. My dad bought me my first baseball glove at Service Merchandise.
Yeah I went there quite a bit as a kid. The Dot is still there but I haven't been in a couple years. I can remember watching New Jack City at the Gulfgate movie theater when I was about 12. That was an experience!
