What if someone gave you a botched copy of the law?

The 1500 block of Milwaukee Ave., just south of North Ave.

If I were you, I'd try to figure out how to fight it. With as much trouble as the state is in right now (financially speaking), I would think they'd realize it would be more fiscally sounds to refund you $160 than to fight you and spend potentially much more in court costs.

Of course, I don't know how to fight something like this. I'll ask people at work to see if anyone has had this issue in the past.

^ LOL @ your username. Oh, where could you possibly work that you have to "ask" people there to let you know if this could be "fought"? :p

Yeah, s land, sir, forgive me for bringing your hopes down, sir, but you broke the law. If you saw the stickers on the sign, it should have been a sign to not park there for the probability that IMPORTANT **** was there that you couldn't see and therefore should have stayed away.

Thanks! I would also think it's the city's responsibility to fix any vandalized city signage.

OK, well the first person I talked to gave me this URL:
    http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/e...s/traffic/svcs/overview_of_towingprocess.html

    which has this info:
The owner of an impounded vehicle is entitled to a post-tow hearing to contest the validity of the tow and any towing or storage fees. You can request a hearing when you redeem your vehicle or if you have already claimed your vehicle you may visit the nearest auto pound within 15 days of the release and request a hearing. Please understand that you must attend the hearing to contest the tow. All hearings are conducted in person by the Department of Administrative Hearings at 400 West Superior.

Bring that picture. I wonder if you can have a picture notarized, to prove you didn't enhance it or modify it? You should look into that.

ooOOoOOoo... PhotoShop to the rescue!

Hahaha... yeah, right. Spend more and more court time so you can be there and say "Here... I have a picture of the sign that was covered with my ignorance."

    LOL

Sure, and please let us know how it goes.

I am paranoid of having my car towed in this city because of something like this. I hate all the street parking and different rules in different parts of the city. I miss parking lots.

    Chances = 0

Quit wasting your time. You're going to end up paying... why compound the pain?

Given that this is the City of Chicago, it's unlikely that I'll have the time to put up with their bureaucracy.

I'm just annoyed more than anything, especially since it wasn't even my car (it was my cousin's car, who was visiting for the weekend).

I need to stop driving in Illinois lol. I don't even have a car (this was my cousin's), but the last two times I've driven here, I got a speeding ticket in a rental a few months ago on the interstate outside of Urbana/Champaign, and now towed.

if you had to ask someone on the internet just to find the proper link to fight the ticket, I don't see you winning the case...

you have to be more resourceful than that.

this is coming from someone who fights every traffic, transit, or parking ticket he gets.

it takes a lot of time and energy, and it takes persistence like a lawyer.

the system is not set up in your favor, the burden is on YOU to prove that you were indeed absolved from breaking the law.

in this case, you were not.

    good luck.

True, but to be fair, I didn't even go to the towing company to pick up the car. I just gave my unemployed cousin and brother (who are visiting) the cash this morning to take care of it, since I'm at work. They picked up the same form there.

If it's a police officer, then you have a case, but if some fool on the street did it, well good luck with that.
