Missing Dirk Nowitzki for the third consecutive game because of a sprained right knee and Shawn Marionwith a thigh injury, the Mavericks suffered another blow when Caron Butler(notes) injured his right knee with 2:47 left in the first quarter. The trio averages just over 50 points. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap;_ylt=AuL_raqKgqdWzmSC.4e3Com8vLYF?gid=2011010115 Hopefully with these injuries adding up to loses against teams Dallas should beat (Toronto and now Milwaukee) maybe Cuban maybe more inclined to move Brendan Haywood to the Rockets.
I would never wish an injury against any player/team but I wont hold back by saying I hope we can use this to our advantage.
After tonight's game against Portland, with the utter void of an athletic defensive presence, I think I'm finally starting to come around to the idea of going hard after Marcin Gortat. Unfortunately, he's playing pretty well for Phoenix, and the Suns are going to be asking for a lot. I wonder if the Rockets would be willing to trade for Gortat using the Ariza trade exception and the 2012 Knicks pick? His salary makes me nervous, but the Rockets need a guy like him REALLY badly right about now.
Well, the Cavs are in a worse situation that the Suns right about now and with the news that they are willing to take on salary, what would it take to pry Anderson Varajao from Gilbert? He is fairly young for a big man at 27 and is a legit 11-15 ppg/10 rpg guy who can also get you 2 blocks a game. With the Cavs only winning 1 game in December, I think it's time for them to start thinking about the future and getting rid of guys like Andy, Mo, and Jamison. What would you give up for Andy and what would it take for the Cavs to give him up?
IF, and it's a big IF, Nash says I am tired of losing and wants to be traded, would Morey move Yao and that VERY nice contract with say AB and Chase for Nash and Gortat? It saves them TONS of money now and next year while giving the Rox their Big man and Floor General.
Don't think PHX is gonna look at moving him until Feb 24th and then if they are out of it, I really think they will try to unload Childress and Warick and keep Gortat to pair with Nash for another run next season. I think PHX is committed to playing around Nash until the gas tank runs dry on Nash. So, that being the case, it looks like Gortat is their Center for the forseeable future. It's time to move on in our pursuit of a big. If Gortat is available, then Nash is likely available. When you look at their roster, after Nash, Gortat is the next logical keeper piece. And because of his age, he may actually be a keeper after Nash is traded. Just don't see PHX moving him.
Possibly, although Phoenix would ask for the moon in exchange for Nash; and I don't think the Rockets need Nash as much as they NEED a guy like Gortat. Frankly, I'd rather focus on Gortat and keep going with the Lowry/Brooks combo.
I was wrong, my bad. Looking at his stats for this season, he is averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. That's solid, but I fear we may have to take on a bad contract to obtain him. We just need some size in the paint badly and him being a solid 6'11- 7 footer, he would be an instant upgrade to anybody we have down low not named Chuck Hayes.
Andy has been blocking shots at a more regular pace this season with his increased playing time. He isn't the shot blocker Camby is but overall he is a dam good defensive player. He would help a GREAT deal.
Rockets could do Verajao for Jeffries straight up, but like someone mentioned, we may have to take on a bad contract to get it done.
If all other moves fall through, I'd be willing to give up Hill with Yao's contract to take on Varejao and Jamison.
Yeah, it was reported that Cleveland is one of the few teams in the league that is willing to take on salary.
How about this then. Jeffries + Hill + Budinger + Clippers 2nd rounder for AV and Gibson (bad contract) I think that the Cavs might want Brooks back in that deal though.
They might ask for Hill and maybe a draft pick as well though. I think my trade scenario could work for both parties. They want a young player (Hill and Budinger) , a draft pick ( Clippers 2nd rounder) and an expiring ( Jeffries). We could take Gibson off their hands and send them Brooks, which they could send to a 3rd team like the Wizards for Blatche.
With the news that the Cavs are interested in Blatche, why not make it a 3 team deal? I mean, Gibson and Brooks essentially do the same things on the court. right? Lowry/Gibson/Smith Martin/Lee Battier/Williams Scola/Hayes/Patterson Varejao/Miller/Hill
