    Gang,

Everything I read about the Toronto deal is them offering a contract at about 5 million per season for 6 seasons. That comes out to about 30 million for 6 years work.

Bare with me now, the Rockets can offer him an early bird for about 4.1 million for 2 seasons.

If they give him the Max after that, which would be about 9 million a year for the next 6 or 7, then he would actually make MORE money here in Houston

6 years 30 million in Toronto
6 years 44 million in Houston
(2 years at 4 million, 4 years at 9 million)

So perhaps it is not just about money, maybe Cuttino just wants to start.

I hope this is all just posturing, and Cat stays here, but maybe, just maybe there is mroe to it then that.

    Thoughts/Comments?

I am already mentally prepared for Mobley's departure. His recent comments, specially since the "kiss of death" comment mentioned in Old Man Rock's post.

I think that it does deal with the fact that he wants to start. Cuttino probably sees no possibility to start in Houston, seeing that the team seems to be happy with the current shooting guard that we have. The players and staff have always referred to Cuttino as being their "best man off the bench." It's obvious that the team sees him as the spark plug off the bench in the long run as well.
In addition, I think that the fact that Toronto is closer to Philly also plays a role.

I don't really blame Cuttino and I'm not mad at him, either. He has to do what he thinks is best for him, although I do think he would be making a huge mistake by going to Toronto.
Damn, I just knew that something was wrong when he called Pippen one of his role models.

It is all about the money right now. After seeing Barkley get injured last season, I think Mobley looked at his career and realized it could end in an instant. Of course playing time is also a factor, but I believe, money (and being on NBC) are the real reasons.

I just think that it is more then just money.

Can some of you capologists take a look at my numbers to see if I am correct?

    Thanks

If it's all about Philly... just send him straight there for T. Hill, or dreamcast up some mega deal for Ratliff.

Philly will be rebuilding anyway as soon as they get rid of Iverson.

    edit/newsflash:

Theo Ratliff has the same trait that all Rocket hopefuls have... career highs against the Rockets. Remember, the Rockets do not own a VCR, so they go strictly off of memory in their player acquisitions:

If it is a straight question of maxing out his total take, Lewis signs a 1 year Mid-Level for 2.25 millon, then signing the Full Bird contract at the 9 mil that you mentioned.

    2.25 million (1 year) + 45 million (5 years * 9 million) = 47.25 million

Now justifying the max for a 6th man is an entirely different question that wasn't asked in this thread.

Well, I was going to ask it. But I won't now since Mango, Commissioner of the Serious Police, seems to indirectly be stating he wants to stay on-topic.

We could still pay him more then the Raptors over the next 6 years, without paying him the max.

I think he is looking for a long term guarentee, he saw what happened to Chuck, and is thinking,,,I got 2 contracts left, I need to make the most of them.
