Kind of surprising to me... I thought he would get at least another year.

Maybe, but he definitely got results out of a team that has been an afterthought all decade.

Crazy that the Raiders went 6-0 in their division, but didn't make the playoffs. Every other team in the NFL this year that had even a winning record in their division, made the playoffs with the exception of the 49ers.

Cable is a buffoon. I don't think he was a terrible head coach, but I think I know whats going on here.

Hue Jackson came in and whipped the offense into shape, put the ball in the hands of the playmakers, Cable meanwhile kept trying to go back to Gradkowski while Al wants Jason Campbell to be the unquestioned starter.

If I was Al right now, I'm probably thinking Hue Jackson is the greatest thing since sliced bread and can't wait to make him head coach.

Who knows how that will turn out.

AdamSchefter Filed to ESPN: Raiders informed Tom Cable they will not pick up the option in his contract. He no longer is the Raiders head coach.

AdamSchefter Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson now becomes a leading candidate to succeed Tom Cable.

Cable wasn't a terrible head coach. As a matter of fact, he did a much better job than I thought he would. The Raiders weren't bad at all this season and even went undefeated in their own division.

I think this is an example of how you are very rarely given the benefit of the doubt when you are unlikeable. Guys like Belichick and Parcells are unlikeable as well, but they win. If either of them had started their careers with mediocre records, they wouldn't last long either. Belichick actually did get his career started that way with the Browns.

Hugh Jackson is interviewing for the HC position with the 49'ers today. It would be Al-Davis-tastic if he fired Cable to hire Jackson, and his hand groomed fair-haired boy wonder Jackson left to be the 49'ers HC.

Undoubtedly, they'd probably end up with Brad Childress or Josh McDaniels or some HC trainwreck retread like that.

Whatever moes thinks, from what I understand a lot of the Oakland season ticket holder diehards are pretty pissed today, and a bunch of the players think it was undeserved.

The players don't like it. Shane Lechler pretty much said the team is going to lose a lot of players in Free Agency now (he mentioned Michael Bush in particular).

I understand the frustration, but losing a popular players coach like Cable is going to leave the players (most of whom have endured multiple seasons of being a laughingstock) feeling this way. Most players don't like change, especially if they liked their coach. Cable was popular with the players and was a strong motivator, but this is an Xs and Os NFL we're in now.

Michael Bush is going to go elsewhere anyway, McFadden is now certainly the unquestioned starter and the better back.

Hue Jackson will be the next HC in Oakland.

I like the move for now.

Well, we need to find a way to beat Oakland. The running attack destroyed us this year, if Bush leaves it's definitely a plus for us.

I don't get to watch the Raiders too often, but when given the opportunity, it seemed like Bush trampled opposing defenses. He'll get a chunk of change to go play in a place like San Francisco or Washington.

Jacoby Ford, rookie out of Clemson, has some serious wheels. Al Davis' kind of player... he's a monster in the return game, and deserved to be the specialist in the Pro Bowl, IMHO.

I wouldn't mind signing Bush to play here.
