I'm considering signing up for Vonage. If I do, I would like to use a referral so someone else and I can benefit, but I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that has Vonage. So, next best place is CF BBS! If you have Vonage and would recommend it, let me know what I need so that I can sign up for a referral, and I'll let you know when I do. I guess the only fair way is to say first one to post what I need. Thanks!
Service cancellation is pretty easy now, if you port your number out. I ported my mother's phone out to another VoIP provider and it was painless. It took about a month though. And the price wasn't as good any more. My mother used to pay $18/month but it increased to $31/month over time. Additional fees and taxes were the bulk of the increase.
Can anyone recommend any other good VoIP services? I saw in a different thread that someone recommended CallCentric, but that's about it. I have TWC's Digital Phone right now, and I want to get rid of it b/c it's $40 a month before taxes (my bundle cost expired, and I'm going to switch to DirecTV). And I hate giving TWC my money. Any thoughts?
That might have been me that recommended Callcentric. I have used them for probably 5 years. I put my aunt on the prepaid plan and she has used it for about 4 years. Then put my mom on it and she's used it for a few months. Cut her bill from >$30/month down to about $10. She's a light user, and the international rates were better for her situation. If not Callcentric, I might try voip.ms. I've tried Time Warner, Vitelity, Voxee, Vonage, and one other one I can't remember and all the others fell short. It really depends on your usage which one is best. I'm a big fan of no-contract / pay-per-usage billing, but you may use a lot more minutes than we do.
I've been using PhonePower for about 2 years now. I currently pay around $22 a month. You have the option of paying monthly or paying yearly at a reduced rate. It was farily easy to setup and I haven't really had much problems with voice quality this year. The first year I had it I had to reboot it about once every month but I haven't done that in a year. I like being able to check voice mail online. They have quite a few features that I don't use such as clone lines which is a way to get a second line at no cost.
