Von Wafer was a take over type. But apparently not a very good basketball player. A championship team doesn't need 12 take over types. We didn't draft Patterson to be a take over type. And we didn't pass over anyone that was a take over type for him. Otis Thorpe did fine as a 15-10 guy on a championship squad and that is what I see in Patterson. Just because there was no Olajuwan for us to draft, and our team this lacks that engine, doesn't mean we can't get ourselves some spare parts first.
How did von wafer get into this? In reagrds to thorpe, he was a hell of a player before he got to houston. In houston, he was a great compliment to dream. The question was about patterson's upside, not von wafer. Maybe in between chasing me around, reading a post would be helpful.
He's Paul Milsap when he adds 15 pounds of muscle to his frame. I hate the j*zz as much as anyone, but dude is a baller. I make exceptions for Deron Williams (when is a free agent?!) and Milsap. He should've stayed in college another year, but I'm happy with him. And he's only 21. With dedication and the right coach, I'd say he could be an All-Star a few times. Definitely a starter. Congrats on his first career double double....very impressive and unexpected. With our run up the score team, a couple more solid games could have him in the rotation, sans Chuck Hayes, but the end of the season. I'd like to keep him, but Luis Scola is our 4 until his mid 30s. I to see him as a trade incentive package with, yipes, possibly Yao Ming. Better him than Aaron Brooks.
Von Wafer is an example of a guy who had a take over type personality, but not what it takes to become a productive basketball player. The point being, a take over type personality is not the most important part for a player's development, or upside. Thorpe was the counter example of a solid player with a "back seat" mentality that was still integral to a championship team. I thought that was pretty clearly expressed. I didn't know I had to spell it out for you. As for chasing you around, I tend to only post when I have an idea of my own, or when I see someone say something so ridiculous, so outrageous, that it needs to be addressed. Funny how I tend to reply to many of the same people then.
Ditto... he will likely always hover at a double double but find it hard to get over the hump of other talented PFs

After Patterson's performance, Carl Landy says : oh they goes my chance in houston i'll just stick with Sacremento then --'
imagine if scola, hill chuck had baby... pp has scola's jump shot, hill's athleticism and chuck's immovable defense and knack for rebounding
