Carl Landry: with improved defense and rebounding. Slightly less defense and 4 quarter scoring.

Horace Grant. Otis Thorpe. Dale Davis. The kind of Guy you do not win championships without.

I was impressed with Patterson in the summer league games. He looks very smooth running the court and he seems to understand the game. In other words, he doesn't look lost out there on the floor. I think he can be a good all round player. He has enough size and strength to excel on both ends of the floor, and he looks like he is capable to make an immediate contribution. I'm surprised that he is just now getting some minutes, but we are a very deep team.

I think because RA has been bringing him up slowly, some people may have assumed he wasn't progressing very much, and may have been a poor draft pick. I think he was a good selection, and I think he will be our full time backup to Scola at the PF position in the near future.

I didnt know he was that atheletic. I think he can be a good starter on a good team for yeasr to come. Will need more samples to determine if he can be any better.

I think starter on a winning team....not sure if he can get his scoring high enough to be a borderline all-star...then again he could be one if he averages 13-14 pts and 10 rebs...

On the court he looks like a taller and sane Ron Artest.

Funny how many peoples minds changed after this game.

    I'm thinking David West.

I was surprised that he made the outside shot with ease. I didn't expect the dunk. He got off the floor quickly.

Y'know i didn't think about it...but yeah I can see that. That would be a really good best case scenario.

Thing about Ppat, his floor is very high. As in he can contribute and be a good rotation player right now. So even if he can't become a David West type of player he already is a good player.

Meanwhile Hill has a lower floor, but imo has a higher ceiling. Some of the shots he hits are superstar type shots. Those fade away mid range jumpers he has start hitting are a page right out of Garnett's arsenal.

Morey going to have a tough decision if he has to choose between these two.

From the highlight package, I thought PatPat looked like he knew how to anticipate on a basketball court. That impressed me. He seems to have a high BBIQ.

If his ceiling is 13 pts with 15 rb with D skills I would be ecstatic!

I think he will be a guy who will have the mentality of go along type when his physical ability says take over type.

In typical Van Gundier fashion, he took a quote and probably didnt even read the entire context of it. Its okay though and I still stand by what I say about him.

Patterson is in the same mental mode of shane battier both good and bad. He's asolid guy who wont make mistakes and who will be in the right place. The downside of it is he wont be a takeover type based on his mental makeup. Physically, I could see david west, but david west thinks he's one of the best pf's in the game because of his attitude. Landry took the closers role last year more mentally than anything. Of course he had some physical ability, but he will those 4th quarter scoring outputs mentally.

To me, i dont think he has enough dog in him to be an all star, but maybe he changes some later in time. I kind of doubt it because you can see those kind of guys at a early part of their career. Hopefully he and hill stay in the rotation because we've seen the absolute best of hayes anyway.

Asking for Patterson's ceiling is misleading because PP has (A) a much higher floor than most rookies and (B) has a much higher chance of coming close or reaching his ceiling than most rookies.

    My breakdown is
20% Borderline all-star: Mainly because PFs tend to be loaded in terms of stars
40% Starter: 12-15ppg and 7-10rpg type numbers and doing a lot of little things
35% Bench player: 8/6 type as a solid backup
5% injury or something unexpected kills career

Also, I'd think that Patterson's emergence might not be to trade Hill. If the Rockets can't get a star player this season or the offseason, I think Scola's likely gone.

David West seems to be a good comparison. While Patrick Patterson is only 21 yrs old, West was 2 yrs older in his rookie year, 23 yrs old.

Here are their season highs, after 4 games played
Patrick Patterson 15 pts 10 rbs 1 blk
David West 9 pts 5 rebs 0 blk

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3721/gamelog;_ylt=AkyKPsHiYpubMxgqtltNGY7WPKB4?year=2003

Surpisingly, he is already passed up West in only 4 games. West didn't have a comparable game until about 20 played games on December 2nd, 2003. West scored 14 pts 11 rbs 1blk.

West had a few games of 15-20 mpg in his first month, but failed to put up more than 8 pts and 4 rebs in a 20 min game against Dallas.

Patterson has done better at a younger age, but at the same number of games played in their careers.

I like his game now, but hopefully he doesn't go too soft and turn into Lamarcus Aldridge or Channing Frye. He just has to remember the jumpshot is a nice addition not the basis of his game.
