I'm looking to remove some cheap tint from the driver and passenger side of my car. It's starting to bubble up. I tried taking some of it off, but the adhesive isn't coming off. Any suggestions? Looking for successful methods or a place on the North side of Houston (preferably 1960) that can take care of it.
you can do it your self it's easy and you'll save money. that's what I did to my car. just get a bottle of windshield wiper fluid and a razor blade with a good scrubber. key is to peel it off slowing and don't rush.
I really want to do a good job. I tried scraping some of the adhesive off and it still looks ugly. Do I absolutely need the fluid? I found a place off 1960 called Texas Auto Glass. He said it would cost $20 for the front two windows. Can anyone recommend them?
1 Roll the vehicles window about a third of the way down just enough were you can see the edge of the tint and the window. 2 Take one of the single edge razor blades and slide it behind the tint, and begin to peal it off towards you. Once you have a big enough piece of tint to work with you can pull off the rest by hand. If a piece is left behind just follow the process again with the razor blades. (When pealing the tint you will have to move your window up to remove the rest from the bottom of the window). 3 Once all the tint is removed you will see all the residual glue left behind. Take the Goo-Gone and spray it right on to the window where ever you can see glue present. Using the rest of the razors begin to scrape away the glue that has been sprayed with the Goo-Gone gone. Repeat the process until all the glue is removed. 4 After all the glue has been removed give the window a good spray down with window cleaner and this should remove any streak marks left behind. If you still have some small spot of glue repeat with spraying the Goo-Gone and scrape away with the razor blade. 5 Repeat for all other windows that you want to remove tint from. Going slow when removing the glue will ensure no scratches from the razor and a faster removal process be careful when using the razor blades not to cut yourself or scratch the window. If the tint is on a window with radio wires or defrost wires be very careful and go slow cause pulling the tint can damage and rip these wires out.
Yes you need wiper fluid. Get a good scrubber and spray the wiper fluid on the adhesive as you peel it off. A razor blade will help with the tuff stuff. It'll maybe take some hard scrubbing to get it off if the tint is really stuck on(had it easy on one window, the other one not so much) but it works. If you don't want to go through the trouble tho, 20 bucks for both windows doesn't sound bad. I would do that instead if I were you cause it might take you sometime to get it all off. PS. If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you get all of it off. If you don't it can lead to your windows getting jammed up.
anything with alcohol in it will remove it. They sell tint off also. But if u can get a good rubbing alcohol that stuff will come off easily.
The steam method works great especially on the back window. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GTprbsGGt48?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GTprbsGGt48?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
