its because they chose to remove it rather than repair it in order to change his recovery time from 9 months to 3 months. Portland ruined his career and now has to pay him $100m to be a non functioning player, I doubt they'll even be able to get much for insurance, esp in the latter years considering it was self inflicted.
Man this is just awful, I don't even care that this would cause us to rise in the standings. Roy is one HELL of a ball player and remember when Ron Ron said Roy was better than Kobe and Lebron? This is a tragedy for the NBA to lose a player of Roy's caliber, but maybe he can pull a Grant Hill
Portland can't take the entire blame for it. Roy knew what he was getting into just as much as management in Portland when they opted to remove his meniscus. It's really sad to see his career already over with injuries. If he knows what is best, he will retire and enjoy at least somewhat of a healthy life. His career as a basketball player is over.
Not all of it, but most of it, it's an operation that is happening way too much in professional sports right now, and the attempts to rush people back is why i didn't really blame tracy for ignoring the team medical advice. Team doctors work for the team, that's the problem right there.
Well he's rich, young, and even if he retired right now (at the age of 26) with 100 million dollars, that isn't too bad of a deal. He can enjoy the rest of his life relaxing on a yacht with beautiful women.
They only signed Roy to a contract extension, last season. Now they are stuck with him for the next 5 seasons(including 2010-11). This was the first year of his extension. Roy has a player option for 2014-15 for almost $20 mil. http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9132 It sucks to be them. Now they know how Rockets' fans felt during the T-mac and Yao era.
just picked up rudy fernandez... as far as fantasy hoops goes, i hope there is truth to this report that roy is done! fenandez will be a steal!
I live that life and it's not all that it's cracked up to be. Maybe he'll have a bigger yacht than me though.
Portland had so much potential .........people thought they could have been better than the OKC Thunder.
Steve Smith could also be a good example for Roy, very skilled, intelligent player whose knees limited his quickness
Roy only earned 12.6 mill in total before this season. he's now on the first year of his 5 year/ 82m contract if he retires now. he's not getting the money.
