Kobe being compared to Pippen? What a joke. Sometimes hate blinds people.

They're both great in there own respects. Just leave it. And if this is indeed a team sport, who cares about individual accolades such as MVPs or stats?? Why not instead of having PER or plus minus ratings, just have the players name, and the number of championships next to the name?

It's also sad to see Kobe not get any respect from fans of other teams at this point in his career. Just shows what kind of culture we live in today. I'll bet if all the infomation technology existed back during Jordan's days, he would have had so many more haters. Still, I think great players are more loved after they retire, so I'm hoping for the same for Kobe.

ESPN is and will always be S***. The stuff they write is just to stir up a little fan fair before the Christmas game. Nothing new here, just some lazy sob trying to enlarge his pay check so he can get his fat overfed kid a bigger toy. Who cares about who's more clutch, people can debate all they want after both players hangs it up. Until then, I just want to enjoy a good game on the tele.

Problem is, all you can say for Lebron is "what if", "probably", "maybe could have" etc. That's the bottom line at this point for Lebron.

Well he's certainly performed far better than Kobe both in the regular and playoffs. I think that's pretty much cut and dried at this point.

While it's true that Pippen was a lot closer to Jordan than Kobe was to Shaq, in the general sense of them both being "Robins" it's a fair comparison. And although Kobe isn't even close to the defensive player Pippen was, he's definitely a better offensive player, so that's close to a wash. I think you need to give Kobe some credit.

I heard he's gonna averaged triple double, or at least close to it from you before the season started, yet his numbers across the board slumped. He's supposed to have better shooting fg% now he has help, didn't happen, he's supposed to average more assists now he has 2 all stars to pass to, didn't happen.

On the other hand, Kobe's not shooting better, he's only shooting more frequently in the fewer minutes he put up, and his PER increases immediately.

I think it's more than enough to prove PER is a ballhog stats, if the player ballhogs on every possession with reasonable efficiency, he's going to get ridiculous high PER, that also explains why the clutch PER stat is even higher, coz they ballhog more in clutch time.

I am not against ballhogging as long as the team can win championships. But I don't understand why a ballhog stat can be used to measure efficiency.

PER does give extra credit to higher usage players, all else being equal. But, actually, LeBron's usage the last few years was only slightly higher than Kobe's, while his efficiency was significantly higher. So saying his higher PER is simply because he ball-hogged it more doesn't quite make sense. Is it easier to be efficient when ball-hogging, in your opinion?

He scored 10 points in 4th quarter, including 2 inside 24 seconds. 15 rebounds overall. That's not clutch?

In 96, MJ had last game of the season worst than this, a worst final series too and nobody gave a **** about it. Why did some stupid haters bring this up again and again?

You are wrong, usage only measures the possessions a player shoots or turns over. It doesn't measure the possessions the offense going through a player to make a play.

We all know LeBron holds the ball much more than Kobe in his Cavs years. The offense is dedicated to LeBron 1on1 and P&R. The result is LeBron getting very good assists stat while the team assists number is low. The usage doesn't measure how many attempted assists. You don't call it efficient if one shoots 24 times and make 8, so why is LeBron efficient when he passed 24 times and his teammates only convert 8 because not many of them were open shots? The cavs played a stagnant offense and the team assists number is low, Lakers on the other hand, play triangle and while the team assists number is high, the distribution is always more uniform.

PER is ridiculous that since LeBron is taking 8 out of 16 assists of cavs, while Kobe is doing 5 out of 20 of Lakers (number is for illustration not exact), LeBron is 2 times better in assist category.

LOLwut? The offense in Cavs had to go through LBJ because the rest of the cavaliers sucks so much. Why give it to other players when Lebron is the one who converts at the highest clip? AND WTF is an attempted assist? LOL the way you contort yourself to defend your idol is amusing to say the least.

Ballhogging 20+ seconds then passing to a teammate for contested jumpshot certainly doesn't account to usage, it can be an assist though. Ironically LeBron isn't getting better numbers now he has better teammates, as you've claimed before the season, so how do you plan to eat crow now?

    1) lebron's stats will be as close to a triple double as any player in the L. he's at 24.6, 6.5, 7.1 right now. it will probably be around 25, 7, 7 when the season is over. hey, nobody can be right all the time right, but he still puts up the best all-around numbers despite playing with the 2nd best all-around player in the L.

    2) lebron's fg% would be up but he's falling in love with the jumper more than i thought. he takes more heat checks than tmac in his prime right now it's ridiculous. he's taking a lot of jumpers this season more than others (ala kobe). and yet he's at 47% right now. it should be 48-50% when the season is over.

    3) PER is not a ballhog stat. nash, deron, and a few others have the ball in their hands A TON and their PER would never reach lebron's. kobe's usage rating is 34 this year and his PER is 25. lebron's PER took a hit to start the year, but it's going up. and it will continue to go up. his problems are turnovers and fg% this year. turnovers remain a huge problem, but his fg% should go up.

    4) ultimately, i'm winning my bets against you so far though. lebron is the MVP of the heat (can you even argue it now? nobody is talking about wade anymore). and the cavs are stuck at 8 wins. they MIGHT get 25 wins, but i'm still hopeful they will only get 20. they're THAT BAD.

    Hollingers' usage rate is defined:

    {[FGA + (FT Att. x 0.44) + (Ast x 0.33) + TO] x 40 x League Pace} divided by (Minutes x Team Pace)

Just take last season. LeBron's Usg was 32.2. Kobe's was 30.5. For efficiency, looking at ORTG. Last year, LeBron's was 121. Kobe's was 109.

If you want to argue that LeBron's PER is inflated because of his higher usage, you're looking at it wrong. His PER was "inflated" by his extraordinarily high efficiency, given the high usage.

Also, the Cavs had the 6th best offense last season with LeBron, and this season it has dropped to dead last. So .. umm ... what's your point again?

If it results in an assist, it counts towards usage (Hollinger's definition of Usg-R, or Poss% used in BOP -- whichever you prefer), and consequentially counts towards PER.

If it doesn't result in assist, it neither counts towards usage or PER.

You stopped reading after you reached a completely factual statement that you just didn't like? I could understand your reasoning if it was an opinion statement, but the bottom line is that the Lakers get outscored at the end of close games with Kobe on the floor. They may still win a lot of them, but if you're up four at the five minutes mark, and Kobe has to make a buzzer beating game winner to save you, he had a negative +/- if he played that entire five minutes.

Well, that didn't take long at all. I was willing to give Lebron until the end of the season to bring his efficiency numbers up above what Kobe was at, and it took him less than a week. Lebron now leads Kobe in PER, 25.5 vs. 24.

God im so sick of the r****ded "rings" argument, its about the dumbest logic you can come up with.

By your logic, lamar odom is a better forward than Charles Barkley ever was, because charles never won a ring.

Do you see how stupid that sounds and how it makes no sense at all??

Winning rings has nothing to do with an individual players talent, its how good the TEAM and coach are. END OF STORY.

No wait, you're right, Robert Horry is a better player than Jordan because he has more rings, smfh.
