I refuse to be teased. Not going to believe that Cowher report. #wouldbesettingmyselfupfordisappointment Whoops, not twitter.
This. The sad fact of the matter is that the Texans are my team, for better or for worse. I feel the same way about the Astros and the Rockets. I truly believe that the ship will be righted, and the Texans will one day be a successful franchise. When? God only knows.
Don't want to derail the thread at all, but you're being silly. If MLB used the NFL's playoff structure, the Houston Astros would have made the playoffs in 13 out of his 18 years as an owner. Only Atlanta and the Yankees would have more. Just sayin. He's never been perfect, but he (and Les) are light years ahead of McNair at this point.
If McNair would put the effort into landing Cowher like he did getting this franchise here there is no doubt in my mind we would get him.
Asked Mr. Breet earlier tonight(based on his earlier reports) "Do you see Bob interviewing or even talking to Bill Cowher after the season? And why wouldnt Cowher come to Houston? Thanks" His response: "McNair's walking tightrope. Likely to keep Kubiak if can't get Cowher. So gotta be convinced he lands Cowher before interview. "

That is actually the most encouraging news that could have come out of this whole mess. The fact that he's AWARE of the fact that Cowher is the best choice out there, and wants to at least EXPLORE the option at least gives me a little hope that there are brighter days ahead. Now, excuse my ignorance, but who is this Breer fellow, and why is he giving us news that goes against everything ANYBODY has said thus far??
Breer a NFL Network reporter; former beat guy/writer for Patriots, Cowboys. As I said above, I refuse to be teased. Not going to believe that Cowher report or perhaps just cautiously optimistic. Dont think it will happen in the end(means Kubiak will be back ) but there is that small small percentage.
Ah, ok. What does it say about the state of our local media when a guy who doesn't even work here has more in's than they do?? Sad. And, I am going to choose to believe it for the sheer fact that it will lend me some sanity. If McNair at least identifies that Cowher is the man for this job, then at least there will be a chance we land him. I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment by believing that Cowher will actually COME here, but at least I can sleep at night.
I don't see this scenario happening. In order for this to work, McNair has to contact Cowher and get a feel for how much interest Cowher has and how much it will take to get him here and be reasonably certain that he'll accept an offer. This, all while Kubes is still under contract. Knowing how much McNair values loyalty, I can't see him doing that while Gary is still the head coach. Likewise, in light of recent comments by Cowher, I don't think he would meet with McNair as long as Kubiak was still under contract either. He's not going to basically interview for the job, knowing that Kubiak will be fired if he accepts. I don't know how you work around that. How do you become convinced Cowher will come here without talking to him and without going behind Kubiak's back? Knowing who these men are, this just seems implausible to me. I don't know, if McNair can find out if Cowher really does want to coach next year, and can somehow verify if Cowher's "wish list" was legit, and if the Giants and Dolphins don't fire their coaches, AND he's willing to spend the money, then I guess he could be reasonably confident that he could land Cowher.
You've gotta believe that if Cowher WANTS to come here, he will have ways of relaying that information to Bob McNair without being distasteful. This wouldn't be the first time a free agent coach would be considered for a job while an incumbent is still under contract. I still think it's beyond a long shot, but I don't think communication channels will be the reason why Bill Cowher is not walking our sidelines next season.
So he wants Cowher as HC but he is so afraid to do anything that'll hurt Kubiak's feelings, man this owner is a joke.
I'd rep you 100x over if I could. People who grew up in Houston but are Cowboys fans make me f..king sick. Have some self respect you pathetic pukes.
Completely agree. I've thought or asked myself the same as you - How is Bob suppose to know Cowher is interested or how is Bob gonna be convinced he can land Cowher without talking or meeting? His gut instinct? Not sure.
The Texans are on a 1-8 streak right now and have an 8-22 record against winning teams under Gary Kubiak. That's not competitive. Nobody respects the Texans. Why should they? What have they done to earn that respect? You mean last year? When we finished the season winning 4 meaningless games in a row against the Seahawks, Rams, Dolphins, and a Pats team that already had everything wrapped up? And yes, my idea of a winning season is playoffs or bust. My idea of a winning coach is a coach that wins more games than he loses. Gary Kubiak is 36-43 with the Texans. 36 is less than 43.
My standards for competing: Go 0.500 in your division - we've never done that once in 9 years. Win no less than 5 home games a year. Make the WC at least once every 2-3 years. These are pretty low standards. Everyone is welcome to their opinion. I'm encouraged with the most recent moves, I want to be a fan of the team again.
