Battier probably doesn't face post up players that often, but this is a good point. Half the battle in playing post defense is denying the post up.

I never really noticed Battier's post issues. I think you're right that not having a legit big that can help on the weak side probably does hurt him. But, a good post defender wouldn't need to have weakside help to be effective at defending the post.

All this said, I've never been impressed by Lebron's post game, given his ridiculous build. The guy is the size of a power forward, but with way more athleticism. If he could master the low post game, he would be completely devastating.

the way to beat the Heat is playing zone defense and by attacking their soft front court but we dont have no attackers because he is sitting on the bench(TW) until he fulfills rick ass kissing fantasies then he might play but the kid doesnt read between the lines because he is too...............

Battier will get destroyed. I dont recall him the one stopping lebron or kobe, we had artest for lebron then ariza for kobe.

    1. Is there a way to stop Kevin Martin? - He may be banged up from Mondays game with that knee injury.

    2. Can Heat control the pace again? - Yes they can.

    3. How to outsmart Battier - Refs can "outsmart" any player on the court. They will call couple of Ghost calls on Battier that will send him to the bench early. We are talkin about LeBron - Stern the Huligan will kick refs ass if they don't call those for James.

    4. The battle inside - RuPaul ... errr .. I mean Bosh always been a Rockets killer. Look out for Zs offensive rebounds.

    5. Keep Houston off the line - Uh, hmmm .... entirely in the hands of Refs. Translation : Houston will NOT get calls.

Lol, Ron Ron allowed James a triple double on Saturday's game. After that, he called it a "borderline breakout game" for him. :p You are just as delusional as him if you think he's a big step up from Battier.

Looks like ESPN doesn't want any upsets to the Heat cash cow.

Seems very Miami biased, with no balance in the article with any strategy on how to exploit any Heat weaknesses.

Actually, if Battier gets overpowered by LeBron, I would not be surprised that Williams may take the defensive assignment.

Also, it would be interesting if they switch Hayes and Battier, putting Hayes on LeBron and Battier on Bosh. Even though Bosh is taller, he is not as physical and he's more of a face up than post up PF. Battier might be able to handle him fine.

I don't think Hayes will be a primary defensive assignment, but you can definitely expect a lot of switching between those two on pick and rolls.

No?!?! Lebron would blow pass hayes all day.
And for #1, the only thing that stops Kevin Martin is himself and the referees swallowing there whistles.

Dude!! 70% of the world is covered by water, the rest by Chuck Hayes (said Shane Battier)..didnt you get the memo?!?! lol

Nah, seriously though... i think you're underestimating Hayes' quickness and ability to move laterally. It's definitely not the ideal choice, but at certain points of the game, perhaps on Pick n Rolls, I think he'd do ok defending Lebron. He's done it before, and actually did it on Paul Pierce in Boston last year that helped us win the game in OT.

But i do agree with the K-Mart comment. Ref's may swallow their whistle tonight so K-Mart better be on top of his game tonight. Hopefully the knee injury wont slow him down tonight.

I actually be up for doing something a little crazy. Put Scola on Bosh, Battier on Wade, and Chuck on LeBron. Let Martin cover the C and flop like hell. Have Lowry help out....a lot. Generally speaking though, everyone sinks in and make them take a lot of jump shots.

Offensively, you really want to take it to the whole and draw fouls as much as possible.

Budinger should get minimal minutes this game...

Battier's post defense isn't that great? Then I guess it's a good thing LeBron is allergic to playing with his back to the basket.

LeBron has also been notorious for performing below his averages against the Rockets, and I'm sure a big part of that is a result of Battier.
