The Rockets best acquistion since 2006 of course is Morey himself. But that doesnt count. I thought that trade was a bunch of noise for a bunch of nothing. Though in actuality it ended up being the 25th pick traded for a 2nd round appearance (in it leading to acquiring Artest) and some cap room later. Considering the Rockets playoff woes, if you told me you could trade the 25th pick for AT LEAST a 1st round win, I'da done it. Might as well say actually unloading away Mike James and Bonzi Wells for Bobby Jackson and cap relief gets "transactional points".
1) Scola trade (gave up Spanoulis) 2) Martin+Hill+2012 pick trade (gave up Landry, McGrady, Dorsey) 3) Artest trade (gave up Donte Green, 2009 pick, Jackson) 4) Hired Adelman 5) Drafted Aaron Brooks
I'm trying to avoid playing the "we got something and then traded it away later for something else" game, since that can be easily carried out to ridiculous extremes. While not necessarily in response to the poll question, my point about the 2008 NBA Draft trades was that--from a purely transactional standpoint, putting aside the players selected with the picks--it was a rather brilliant set of transactions: (1) The #25 pick to Portland for the #27 pick and the #33 pick; then (2) The #27 pick to Memphis for the #28 pick and a 2009 (high) second rounder. Yes, the players selected make these moves less noticable, but the TRANSACTIONS were, in my opinion, top 5 on the list of great moves by Daryl Morey & Co. For instance, if you could trade Chase Budinger and a future second round pick in exchange for the #1 pick of the 2011 NBA Draft, that would be considered a brilliant move by the GM. While it would suck if the Rockets then wasted the #1 pick on a bust who never even amounted to being as good as Chase, the TRANSACTION was still brilliant. The selection was not.
1. Scola trade 2. Hired Adelman 3. Battier 4 Gay and Stro 4. Artest trade 5. Martin + Hill + pick + right to swap Battier
My first instinct was to vote for Martin, then I remembered that SA is a division rival, which automatically makes the Scola deal a better trade.
I am ignoring the Scola deal because that is too obvious. That said: Best move: getting rid of Mike James. Worst move: reaquiring Mike James.
1) Luis Scola (for the Greek T-Mac) 2) Martin, Hill, and 2012 picks for T-Mac's contract and Carl Landry 3) Hiring Rick Adelman
definetely the tmac trade. we gave a washed up superstar for a new stoudamire basically and a ray allen type player but can create his own shot in martin. hands down the best option.
No doubt it's Scola. Whoever is picking Battier needs to be kicked in the head. I love Battier, don't get me wrong, but giving up Gay for him was dumb. I know we wanted experience, but still was a bad move.
This is my bone too with people saying, if you traded A for B, then B for C, then C for D, then you essentially traded A for D. That is true ONLY if you had planned all three trades BEFORE you did the first one. Just because you can do something smart from what you got from a bad decision doesn't make that first decision smart, and vice versa.
Every bit of the transaction counts...we couldn't have this roster if it was for the Rocket's GMs' and Les Alexander.....espcailly Rocket fans I dont really have a certain favourite/best transaction This team has been up and down the slope...Espically when you look at the Playoffs09 and W22, trading away Rudy Gay, now maybe trading away Yao Ming (which was a centre-piece in the team)
its hiring rick...he made it all come together and held up strong with most others would have shrunk from the challenge!!!!
If, If, If only for like 5 seasons. Must be the red uniforms you know that color red coincidently ranks #1 in automobile accidents. I think the color red is a curse driving or not.
