Short term - thank goodness we didn't sign him. Long term who knows.

    hehehe...too bad they didn't discover this....oh....about 2 1/2 weeks ago!

September 19, 2002: Rashard Lewis, after a tense summer full of contract negotiations, finally has agreed to re-sign with the Seattle Sonics for $60 million. Rashard arrives at the office of the Sonics GM Wally Walker, ready to sign his contract

Walker: Rashard! Thanks for coming by! You had us worried there for a moment, with all this talk about signing with Dallas or Houston.

Lewis: Well, you know how those things go. I was just trying to explore my options.

Walker: Well, we're glad you decided to sign with us. We think you can be a cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. Now, the contract is right there on the desk for you to sign

Lewis: Oh man, I've been dreaming of this moment my entire life!

Lewis doesn't see a pen next to the contract, so he reaches for one on the other side of the big, executive sized desk. He hears a distinct, yet familiar popping sound

    Lewis: OOH!

    Walker: What was that sound?

    Lewis: (grabbing shoulder) Oh......that was......ow....ummm, I mean....that was nothing...

    Walker: Are you wincing?

Lewis: (sweat forming on forehead) Naw, man...I'm cool...ow...ummm...You know, is it OK if I sign this thing with my left hand? (puts pen in other hand and hastily tries to sign contract. Walker deftly grabs the pen)

Walker: Listen, Rashard...You don't seem to be feeling too well, today. How about you stop by the doctor's office, then come back with a full medical report...THEN, we'll talk about this contract. (grabs contract on desk)

Lewis: (grabs contract with non injured arm) No! Give it back, that's my contract!

An intense game of tug of war ensues with the document

    Walker: YOU.....ARE....INJURED! GIVE......ME........THE......CONTRACT.....BACK!

    Lewis: I........SAID..........THAT......I'M.......FINE!

Has anyone ever done a study on paying NBA players even better than they get paid now, but without the guaranteed contracts. What would be the economic impact? Would players go for it? This just reeks for the teams... when these season-ending injuries occur. He could go get a regular job. What injury would keep you out of your job for the whole year?

lol, A-Train. Kinda reminds me of The Simpsons when Homer is trying to get health insurance.

Salesman: Under 'heart attacks' you crossed out three and wrote zero.
Homer: Ohhh. I thought that said 'brain hemmerages'.

    A-Train,

Good stuff. Although I picture him signing the contract, then Walker saying, "Man, I'm glad that's taken care of, welcome back, 'Shard, we're gonna win champion..."

(slaps Rashard on back: POP; "OUCH!")

    "...sh!ts."

You guys are actually entertained by the fact that an actual person is hurt? For a whole year? I sure know I won't be happy if I can't do what I'm meant to do for a whole year.

That sucks for Rashard, but good news for the Rockets playoff chances. The Sonics are a team we could very well be competing with for a playoff spot, and they're not going to be as good without Rashard.

I'm pretty sure that $60 million he's getting will comfort him just a bit...

    News
Tests on Rashard Lewis' injured left shoulder showed no major damage and the forward will not need surgery, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The club hopes Lewis can return to practice later this week.

We thought Lewis was a goner with this latest shoulder injury. But trust us, Lewis is far from out of the woods. He needs to play for an extended period to prove that he is completelyt healthy. It would be very easy for that troublesome shoulder to pop out again.

This shouldn't be a monetary issue. But let's not go further, you might be right after all. But I'll just hold on to my opinion.
