I got an account from the open registration they had a while ago (thanks to the poster from here). However I'm still new and not sure about the rules yet. I've read on there that before uploading any files, we have to check to see if there are already one uploaded by another user. I think almost all the files I have already exist somewhere in Demonoid. How do I get my ratio up?
Well according to them there's no penalty for having a low ratio. Mine's been hovering around 0.5 but I'm sure that there's an error in their logging as I have downloaded and uploaded way more than it says. If you want to get your ratio up the easiest way would probably be to seed popular files like movies. I seed anything I download for at least a day.
How do I seed movies if I haven't downloaded anything from them? Do I just upload one? Most of the movies I have are common movies and I'm sure there are already torrents out there. Do I have to download a movie first and keep seeding till my ratio increases?
In this case, yes. If you don't have anything unique to the site to upload (very few do), then seeding well past the point of 1 to 1 ratio will get you going in the right direction.
Well I didn't mean you should download a file just to upload. If there is a movie that you want to watch though, download it and seed it for a while. Something with lots of peers would be best. Basic rule of thumb would be to seed anything you download past the 1:1 ratio, like someone above mentioned.
I have sent out four invites and have (1) left -- first come, first serve. Jontro, anything I download I usually let seed until it has a 3.0 ratio. I don't think I'll ever upload anything because I wouldn't really know how or they probably would already have it. Edit: Correction.. apparently I have (2) left now as someone didn't use their invite code. Either way, e-mail me and I'll try to accommodate.
