I realize that there is a gray area here between being a fan of the Rockets and a fan of one player on the Rockets, since some people, including myself, would have probably quit caring about the Rockets if Stevie had never joined the team. But at least Stevie got my attention because of his out-of-this-world game, not his race or culture. So in this poll, I'm talking about Yao Bandwagoners who, if for instance Yao got drafted by the Knicks, would now be flooding whatever Knicks message boards/fan sites exist out there. So go ahead, show your true colors and vote. Note: windandsea is exempt from voting, since he/she would probably have to vote the second option.
What do you expect to be benificial from this poll? By the way did you read my response on the other thread?
Ok, I'm just spitballin here, but I would guess he is trying to discover the percentage of Yao fans to total Rocket fans. Just a guess, though.
Im a newbieto this fourm, but i have been a Rocket fan for over 30 years. I think Clutch City is great. New fans, welcome aboard.
Yetti, I think what he is saying after your rampage last night is that if you are going to accuse the PG of not being a team player...then tell us where you stand with the team, because the longterm Rockets fans have every right to b**** at the one-player-bandwagonners for not being a team fan. The reason why people become a Rockets fan is largely irrelevant around here. It is "how" you cheer for the Rockets once you become of fan that matters. If Yao is a good to great center and Francis clashes with him like Marbury clashed with Garnett to the detriment of the team, your voice will be drowned out into a fleeting whimper compared to the fury launched upon Francis by longtime Rockets who lived through the years of empty stadiums it takes to get guys like Hakeem and Yao.
I've been a Rockets fan since I started watching sports as a small child and Moses Malone was wearing Rockets red.
I'll vote in the poll just for the heck of it, but if someone (Admin, anyone?) wanted to they could add up the # of new posters since the draft and get a rough idea of Yao's affect on the BBS. Another influence, of course, that would diddle the numbers would be the long-time lurkers who registered so they could view the site... until the advent of Clutch's new rockin' server. I'm assuming that you don't have to register to view the BBS any longer... right?
Have been lurking since the Francis Trade -- originally tuned in to learn about Dickerson, Harrington, Price (thanks a bunch ) and Carr. Since then have wasted more hours than is healthy reading your takes on just about everything. Voted myself a Rocket Fan now. Still support the hapless Grizzlies, but cheer for the Rockets too. The huge spike in post-draft members is likely partially a flushing out of us habitual lurkers with the manditory registration thing.
All fans whether you're long time Rockets fan or new Yao-related rockets fan need to grow up. Accusing each other over here doesn't do any good to the Rockets. You all have to realize this: 1) Each star player will bring new fans to the team when he joins the team, slowly all those new fans will become long-term Rockets fan because they want their star player do well and subsequently they want the Rockets do well. This is only a good thing for the Rockets. So don't bash those new fans who become a Rocket fan because of a new star. When you watch Wizards play, are you there to watch Jordan play or because you're a true Wizards fan? All players on this team, including Steve, Yao and other players need to play like a team player, with one common goal in their mind, that is, make the team a winner without thinking about all these individual statistics, or playing minutes, etc. Yao has been well known as a team player, and he will be arriving in this country shortly. He's only 22, will soon be facing with a new language, new culture, new league, new team, so I hope that if you're a true Rockets fan, give him support along with the other Yao-related rockets fan so that this team will benefit. When each player on this team plays well, this team will succeed, even in the west. I never knew about Steve Francis until Yao joined Rockets, but I slowly become his fan because I've seen some of his highlights. I do agree that Rockets need him to be the floor leader, but he is still a young guy, and he needs to learn to be a true leader so that he can make everyone on the team better and bring everyone together. Peace, best of luck to Rockets this season!
Yetti, you are embarrassed your asian fellow posters here...( i know i am for sure!) Do not be overly obssessed with anything in life.I like Yao Ming just as much as i do,but he is a grown up kid.I'm sure he can take care of himself...We all want him to do well here, but i'd rather see him get abused by other players during the first couple years because this is the only way he can learn and better himself .If you were concern with some other player's performance, i think ,you should leave it to Rudy and CD to make that call.So just relaxed and calm down...peace!
I wouldn't say that. Swopa, grizzled, mfclark and others have been positive contributions in one way or another. gettinbranded, on the other hand.... (oh wait, he has left!)
I think it's great that we have Yao-only fans here. It shows that Yao is popular not just in Houston (duh!). And I'm sure that cc.net has a lot of "lurkers" from China that just want to see what's going on with Yao. Great! Yao is a true international star! Similar to how Jordan drew fans that really were not fans of Chicago/Bulls.
Hetpartner:- Thank you for your response I feel a little more relaxed about the Rox future now, especially when you say fans will stand up for Yao Ming if he is treated badly. As you know I have been a Rox fan for quite a long time and only want to see great Team Basketball and future success of this great team! I was shocked and at the same time entertained, by the significant improvement of Steve Francis in last nights game, to a point that I was baffled, as how to interpret his individual show of superiority.
Goodfellow 888:- I think you know just what I was trying to get at! Unfortunately the resonse was bad and what I was trying to do, obviously didn't work. I was trying to emphasize the need, for all players, not just Francis to play Team Basketball.
I with Ref on this one, except I go back just a little further..I went to my first game when I was a little whippersnapper . I think it was a couple of years after they came to town..Actually liked em before Moses, but man I loved to watch the team when he was here..what a awesome player big Mo was.. Will cheer for em from the depths of the lottery to the heights of the Championships..I dont care..I am a diehard, pollyanna-ish, larger than life Rockets fan...I proudly call myself the bigest HOMER there is! If you don't like it...I certainly dont care...get off my bandwagon!!
I was always charles barkley's fan... when he was with the phoenix sun and later the rox. Now I fly with yao ming...
