even if he wanted to stay here, it would be in his best interest to have his contract+insurance shipped to upgrade the team, he's going to be at most a mid level contract next year anyway.
I'm willing to bet Golden State will deal for Yao... There's good money for marketing Yao in San Fran. That and there's plenty of young talent there that I'm sure Morey would be happy to acquire. theSAGE
Who are these teams they are talking about? Sacramento? New Orleans? Philadelphia? You can be sure that you wont get much in return. He's only a expiring contract that is insured. Only teams looking to dump salary will want to make a move. Brand/Iggy imo would be the only team for now who would look to dump salary. It ain't like a team is going to do a Pau Gasol type deal.
I like the idea of trading Yao to PHX for Nash and Gortat. Let PHX's training staff work their magic for a Yao return to Houston in 2011-2012
Not that it makes it any easier, but we're fixing to go through two months of what we went through last year. DM might make some minor deals first, but he'll wait until the last reel, gather everybody together, then give us the "butler did it," moment on Feb. 24.
Better to get something for him than nothing from him and no playing ever again also. You can keep listening to the Yao lemmings who stall our team out every year Morey and keep him and continue the idiotic brigades inept policy of keeping him around for peanuts and 17 million waisted on someone. Or???? Move forward finally.. Get something for him.
We offered him a bigger contract I think, but he wanted minutes he wasn't able to play. As soon as he realized it, he stepped down. Athletes always feel they can still play until they play that one last year and fail miserably.
I keep seeing, especially in other threads, all these trades where we acquire one to three more players than we give up. For the less experienced trade proposers, please remember that we have a full roster at 15 now -- and that number cannot be exceeded. If more players are coming in than going out, the overage in Rockets players under contract must be cut, which could be quite painful. Just FYI.
Nope we offered a little bit less than Toronto did. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/news/2001/08/02/sayitaintso_rockets/
Thank you. It bothers me to no end seeing proposals like that. And I bet if you were to make the same proposal but include Ish Smith in the deal (rather than inevitably waiving him to make room for the extra player(s) coming back), some people would go crazy saying that the Rockets could get SO much more for Ish in a separate deal. THIS is why the Rockets got nothing for Jermaine Taylor. They HAD to move Taylor in order to make room for Terrence Williams. Could Morey have gotten a REAL future second rounder for Jermaine had he had a full month to do so, with no pressure to clear a roster spot quickly? I think he could have gotten one.
I say we have a team that can compete with the best right now. The Rockets trading Yao would be a really bad move in the business sense. The market value for Yao is something to consider. The Rockets would be giving up millions because they would lose millions of fans if Yao is shipped. I know a lot of fans are frustrated now but if he comes back healthy and stronger than ever playing for a different team would hurt even more. And the BOTTOM LINE is the fact that Yao has been nothing but loyal to this team by putting in as much hard work and effort you can expect from a professional athlete. And thats how it should be, unfortunately you don't see that enough. With that being said Im sure he certainly does not want to get traded, nor does he deserve to get traded, and wants to finish his career a Rocket. I am frustrated as much as many of you but I still don't believe he deserves to be traded like this, the payoff is not going to be as big as most of you might expect and probably will bite us later, do the right thing, karma is a b****. Yao has been nothing but loyal to this city and we should do the same as Rocket fans. I really hope this trade doesn't happen...
sure if he decides to retire rite now--if not we would be stupid not to trade him for something hopefully of value--a building block for our next era--we have to face it --yao will never be the same again--his body just wont hold up--its time for the rockets to move on--
