originally posted by Yetti, Heypartner you were scooped regarding the 'CBA Clearance'. You have not been reading all the posts! In any case dont you think that the Friday signing is only acheivable after the CBA informs FIBA.

Yetti, allow me some liberties, I've been talking about the FIBA letter (scooped the requirement for it, actually) since May. Sorry, I read the first page and missed yours. And I agree, Clutch is saying Friday for the signing, so I'm sure he is saying the FINAL deal. A "signing" would be IT! This agreement to sign is not it, yet. damn sure a great scoop though. As it looks like Clutch is has nailed the timeframe perfectly. It will be quite a disappointment if Friday comes and goes though, as I'm sure the info is top notch info, and a failure to sign would mean another frigging hangup, with the Sharks or CBA this time. So weird how we thought it was the CBA all this time, and learned it was as much Yao's agents.
Heypartner:- I still think that the CBA are in control and it is only 'them' that hold the Yea or Nay. They want to show us and the NBA that things concerning Chinese Basketball, only happen when they want it to. Its a macho kind of thing! So I dont expect a final 'go' till they(CBA) say so.The clearance will be given as soon as Yao Ming has completed his obligation in the Asian Games. The Chinese are chinese and they have their cultural ways ,we must have patience! I wish it could be faster!
I may have missed this, as I admittedly scanned the post, and I seem to remember reading that he wouldn't, but is there any chance Ming will be making any of the preseason games? How long will he be tied up in China? I'm sure we'd all like to get a little glimpse with him in the mix.
Ummmm...ok, so like Yao's coming and stuff. What I want to know is WHY IN THE HELL ISN'T HE ON NBA 2K3? He was the first freaking pick in the draft! Couldn't they have at least had some faith that the Rox would sign him?
Expectations are that he'll be here Oct. 20 and there will still be 3 preseason games left. Oct 24 Thu Philadelphia Preseason 7:30 pm Oct 30 Wed @ Indiana 6:00 pm Nov 1 Fri @ Denver 8:00 pm Most likely, he'll see action in at least 2 of the 3 if not all.
actually the games on 10-30 and 11-1 are regular season games. the rocks have a pre-season game on the 20th which he could probably watch and then play in the 2 games on the 23rd against SA and the 24th against philly before the season starts.
Not that I'm questioning the validity of the source, but I still don't understand how he can sign Friday if the CBA won't give him clearance until after the Asian Games, sometime next week at the earliest. Did the CBA change its mind? Another question: is $18 million the total value assuming the contract goes five years?
Rookie contracts are not for 5yrs. They count 3 guaranteed plus 1 team option year. The max should be right at $18m for 4yrs by my salary scale calculations.
Oooh! Oooh! Lemme add my favorite Gene Peterson-ism: "He takes it in dipsy doodles it up, TWOANDAFOOOOOUUUUUULLLLLLLL!!!!"
AP: Yao's contract includes a provisition to ensure his national team duty HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets have orally agreed on a three-year contract with Yao Ming that includes an option worth an estimated $18 million, Houston television station KRIV reported Tuesday. Yao, the 7-foot-5 center from China, was picked first overall by the Houston Rockets in the June draft. The value of the first three years of the deal is $12,442,680, as slated by the NBA rookie salary guidelines. The deal also is expected to include an option for a fourth season which will bring its total value to about $18 million. Yao's contract is actually three separate agreements involving the Chinese Basketball Association, Yao and the Rockets, according to ESPN.com's Darren Rovell. Yao's agent and cousin, Erik Zhang, declined to specify how much of Yao's salary and endorsements will go to the Chinese National Sports Bureau and the basketball association. Zhang did say that the contract will include a "love of the game" provision allowing Yao to play for the Chinese national team. "The provision ensures Yao's commitment as a national team player to serve his country whenever called upon," Zhang said. The CBA has said it would address the matter after Yao finishes playing for China in the Asian Games, which end Monday. Rockets officials have said they don't expect a problem. The Rockets, who beat the Memphis Grizzlies 106-98 in an exhibition game Tuesday night, could not immediately be reached for comment. Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson told KRIV he had no comment, saying, "There's nothing new to report at this time." On Tuesday, Yao scored nine points and blocked seven shots in China's 92-51 victory over the Philippines in the Asian Games in Busan, South Korea. Yao has averaged 14.2 points as China has beaten five Asian opponents by an average of almost 50 points per game.
Dawson is now on record as saying they have reached an agreement. The story quoting KRIV is outdated. I heard this on 610. The Rockets released some sorta statement today. os
I thought that basically the Rockets had agreed that Yao could be available for certain time periods in the offseason, not "whenever called upon."
A report from a Chinese media It said :"According to a basketball website of Houston, Yao Ming is set to be a Rocket, at least on paper, by the end of the week. He is set to sign with the Rockets no later than Friday, and it could happen as soon as Wednesday. The Rockets are currently working out details to broadcast the signing live via satellite." Would it be THAT hard to give credit where credit is due?? It's unethical to use information in that way and not name the source. Windandsea, you probably are tired of hearing this sort of thing, but you've truly become a treasure of this BBS.
hmmm, wait me up when Yao actually get here. hah, thanks clutch. We actually appreciate it.
