Im glad that the Rockets are exploring the idea of trading Yao. I like what the big guy has done with his tenure in Houston. He is a great ambassador for the NBA and does everything that the Rockets has asked of him except for one thing: STAYING HEALTHY!! This same story is similar to another recently ex-Rocket who was just traded away (Mcgrady). Like Mcgrady, I think it is time for the Rockets to move on. It hasn't quite worked for all these years and its the same result year in and out. The Rockets have to nolonger allow themselves to be "held hostage" by holding onto that Yao Ming hope and continue to move on and build this team that has the potential and talent to be successful for years to come. Morey always does his best to grow and build this team. With trading Yao, I can confidently feel Morey will do exactly that!
They will try to retain Brook along with Anthony first if it works out, or look for another alternative to replace the latter. Getting Brook Lopez will almost certainly require a high first round pick, although with a good package. A 3 way trade involving Brooks may not be enough to get a good center for them. Hill can help Favors, Bud's trade value is getting lower even for a young team, and PP needs to show that he can play first IMO.

Same here. I think we're gonna have to wait until the Rockets are awarded the DPE. I'm sure the deals will get better as we get closer to the deadline.
I agree its a business, but this is not BP we are talking about. An NBA owner doesn't get into the business to make money on a short term scale. An NBA franchise is more of a long term investment like a house. The team's value appreciates long term when you sell the franchise with a higher value than when you purchased it before. If you can keep from overspending year to year than you did ok on your investment. If the Kings do look to trade Cousins because they are unhappy with him internally, they must get something back in return that will help them win basketball games or it hurts their "brand." In order for the Rockets to get in the conversation for Cousins it would most likely be in a three team trade where the third team is cost cutting and sends a solid veteran presence to their squad that can help them win now. The only players I could see them interested in would be Brooks, young players like Jordan Hill, and maybe Terrance Williams.
He probably won't ever appear in street clothes on the opposing team's bench either if he's traded. He'll report to the team he is traded to but that will probably the last time we'll hear him associated with that team.
Nobody is even mentioning the obvious. Using Yao as leverage with NJ and NY on the Melo deal to get what we want out of the deal.
Yao is my favorite Rocket, but I'm not opposed to it. The team comes first. If Yao recovers, then he should be re-signed by the Rockets for 1-2 years at the vets minimum rate. I too hope that Yao is on this, but I feel that Yao wants more than what the Rockets are proposing to him now.
Didn't the Lakers try to trade Bynum in the off-season or early in this season? Imagine if Yao decided to play on and got healthy in LA
If this is really the angle. I'm all for it. I want Yao to retire as a Rocket as a difference maker in the mold of Deke. This scenario could help us get someone good and then if Yao comes back, then he does it for cheap. Not sure what the rules governing this kind of thing are as far as tampering, but Z was able to come back after his contract was bought out by the Cavs.
And then leak a story out that the Rockets are looking to make this move to allow the NETS to take on the two max contracts of Melo and Chris Paul???.... Boy would that put some heat on New York. If Melo wants to team up with CP3 then Yao Ming is the answer to clearing enough cap room to do so. Expect this contract to become gold from now on till the trade deadline, just like McGrady's last year. I have alot of faith in Morey to make out like a bandit even if its not CP3 and Melo.
I know, I left it alone as clearly my meaning was missed. If you take basketball out of the equation completely, and make it about money, what I was saying makes sense. And then you can toss in a few basketball cookies to quell the Sacremento fan base, like Lowry or Brooks etc.... DD
Isnt that the goal of every NBA team looking to build their brand?? Or is it the goal of the franchise to just have young talented players who cant win. If this team could land an all-star talent player from Cousins do you really think they wouldnt want that??
