which Rudy's did you go to? everytime I order the moist brisket, it was really moist, like the fat seeping through the butcher paper moist.
ya when that guy writes a questionable review there are usually comments under it to let you know he is wrong, so I always check that first
Had Rudy's from the 620 location yesterday when my wife said to bring home dinner. Brisket Lean -- A little dry for my taste. Nice smoke ring and flavor but a little dry. Had to use a little sauce. C- Brisket Moist -- Excellent All of the above except very moist and tender without having to use a sauce. A- St. Louis Style ribs -- Tasty and tender but not top tier. No sauce used. B Smoked Chicken -- Tasty and juicy. Well cooked. A- Beans -- Taste a little like their sauce. Not bad just not great. C+ New Potatoes -- Very good and well cooked in a traditional southern style. A Not bad overall for a chain. Kids complained the rub used on the brisket and ribs was a little peppery and I couldn't disagree with them but we all still enjoyed dinner.
Had Rudy's 2 weeks ago at the 290 location so I'll add on: Regular Sausage -- Tender but nothing special at all. C+ Cream Corn -- I have to get it every time, ridiculously good. A Completely agree on the moist brisket. I'm usually not a huge fan of brisket since a lot of chain restaurants screw it up, but Rudy's moist brisket is the best brisket you can get from a chain IMO.
Come on guys, why didn't you Austin bozos tell me this was happening in September? (Or did you, and I missed it? lol) : http://www.texasmonthly.com/bbqfestival/index.html Only about 15-20 entries this year, but some big names in Texas BBQ were there. I'm already determined to go there next year, if time permits.
Hmmm, local bbq? My co-worker told me the other day about this place in Huntsville that is in a Church. Forget the name and it may have been mentioned in this thread already, he swears by it. Anyway, my favorite of all time is The Hickory Pit that is off 610 and Bellair or Bissonet. Now that I live in the Woodlands I don't go there as much. But it is awesome. They have great french fries and will smoke meat for you at a good rate. Best sauce ever IMO. I also llike Lulings Market at 610 and Richmond. Great sauce and great sausage.
It's New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and yes, it's considered to be some of the best bbq in the state. I've never tried it, although it's on my list.
that thing sold out like 6 months in advance, I couldn't believe it either. that's a pretty big place too.
I thought it was awful...words can't describe my disappointment. I did the Texas Monthly Top 5 tour and I'll say Snows is#1 on the list for a reason. That being said, I went to Franklin BBQ in Austin - and it MAY be better...I still have yet to do a side by side comparison. But for true BBQ aficionados - I highly recommend the Top 5 BBQ tour - it can be done in a day and a half and it's really a good time (and you'd have time to add Franklin BBQ - which was created after the list came out).
All these food threads are making me very hungry and I've been stuffing myself the last two days with Christmas meals and treats.
Smitty's is fantastic Black's has the best sausage Cruez is pretty good too. If you love BBQ, skip the salt lick and do the tour in Lockhart.
Since nobody warned us last year, for any of you interested : http://www.texasmonthly.com/bbqfestival/
