I think the NBA should look into changing the playoff format to the TOP 16 OVERALL, regardless of conference. I would leave the regular season the way it is in terms of games against each opponent in your conference, opposite conference, etc. It would create better matchups and here is evidence to prove my point, if the season were to have ended yesterday.

    CURRENT PLAYOFF MATCHUPS WOULD BE:

    East: Boston/Milwaukee, Miami/Indiana, Chicago/New York, Atlanta/Orlando
    West: San Antonio/Portland, Dallas/Denver, Utah/New Orleans, LA Lakers/Oklahoma City.

IF YOU TAKE THE TOP 16, THE PLAYOFF MATCHUPS WOULD BE

    1 San Antonio/ 16 Indiana, 2 Boston/ 15 Houston, 3 Dallas/ 14 Portland, 4 Miami/ 13 Denver, 5 Utah/ 12 New Orleans, 6 LA Lakers/ 11 NY Knicks, 7 Oklahoma City/ 10 Orlando, 8 Chicago/ 9 Atlanta.

I would leave every series a best of 7 games, the only thing that needs to be changed is the format. What do yall think?

Many East teams would be left out. IMHO its not good for business. For the last couple of years the East has been very weak. Boston, Orlando, and Cleveland (not anymore) were the exception.

I don't think a team below 41-41 deserves to make the playoffs when the 10th team in the west is above .500 and sitting at home.

So essientially your saying even though the Rockets went lets say 43-39 this year and got the 9th spot and Milwaukee went 35-47, they deserve to make the postseason over a team that won more games in their season???

no team under .500 deserves to make it (which last year the the lowest record in the east was 41-41)

but we shouldnt make the way to get into the playoffs easy it should be a fight so every night your team goes out and fights to get the win

You can't just change the rules to make it easier for the Rockets to make the playoffs

Yall dont seem to get my point. The NBA is all about revenue. People don't want to see Boston vs Milwaukee play outside of Boston and Milwaukee, respectively. It wouldn't be easier to make the playoffs for the Rockets or anyone else, everything stays the same. The only thing you change is the playoff format so it creates more interest for the fans and more revenue for the league. Definitely the TOP 16 is better than eight in each conference. I don't think the 7th and 8th seeds in the EAST will be .500 this season.

Maybe the regular season should still be used in terms of East and West but only to determine the top 4 seeds. After that, the last 8 slots should be determined by record.

I would be all for this if all teams played each other the same number of times. There really would be no reason to even have conferences or divisions. I would like this because the best 16 teams would advance.

Top teams currently in the West are

    1)SA
    2)Dallas
    3)Utah
    4)LA

    Best in the East are

    1)Boston
    2)Miami
    3)Chicago
    4)Atlanta

    Next 8 teams are..

    9)OKC
    ...
16)Houston Rockets or whoever has the 16th best record

#16 would play one of the top 4 in the east/west that has the best record overall (east or west)

in this case it would be Rockets vs SA

    and so on

Sorry, 16th spot would be Pacers not Rockets.

so it would be SA vs Pacers.

But idk.. there's no logic behind what I said, just off the top of my head.

I like the idea. It'd also make the playoffs a bit more interesting since there will be a lot of inter-conference matchups that no one has seen before in the postseason.

Then there would be no need for conferences... Everything would have to change.
