So here would be my picks for the best/favorite movies of 2011. This is only a reflection of what I've seen. Can't comment on films I haven't seen like Black Swan (which didn't interest me) or True Grit (which I wanna see but haven't yet). I wouldn't pay to see beyond terrible movies like Airbender, Resident Evil, Jonah Hex, etc so can't comment on them either. In no particular order... Best: 1) Shutter Island - Just a hauntingly awesome thriller. The ending is not what I expected, but it makes perfect sense. 2) Kick Ass - One of the best comic book movies I've seen. Bloody, humorous, action-packed, good story. The ending kind of sucked, but doesn't ruin the rest of the movie. Hit Girl is insanely awesome. 3) Toy Story 3 - IMO, the best of the Toy Stories. Obviously the animation would be a step above it's predecessors. It's the genuine, heartfelt moments that grab you moreso than the first two films. The end is a tearjerker. 4) Inception - Nolan is masterful. 5) The Town - Gripping from beginning to end. 6) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows PtI - Watched it twice in theaters. An excellent beginning of the end for the series as it perfectly sets up the final chapter, yet stands well on its own. Only a few minor complaints, but the film was wonderfully shot. Worst: 1) Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief - Wife has read the books and says, although having a lot of similarities to HP, it's a fun read. I can see that, anything involving Greek mythology has potential. But the magic of the books is lost in the film. Pretty much an incoherent mess of a movie. Uma Thurman as Medusa...did the filmmakers not see her role as Poison Ivy?! 2) Iron Man 2 - Why would this be on my worst list? Because it absolutely lost all the awesomeness that made the first movie great. Robert Downy is still there and still great. But it lost a little charm, the action is poorly staged and forgettable. Whiplash is used as nothing but an afterthought it seems. 3) Knight and Day - If you watch the trailer then you've watched the best parts of the movie. No joke. This movie had so much potential. And for whatever stupid reason, it skipped over what could have been two kick-ass action scenes. 4) Predators - Not quite horrible, but almost. Adrian Brody was neither good in his role, nor likable. Too many moments too similar to the first. Laurence Fishburne had a wtf moment. Topher Grace was completely out of place. I'd probably rather watch 2 than this.
In no particular order: 10. I Spit On Your Grave (2010) 9. The Man From Nowhere (Korean) 8. Coldfish (Japanese) 7. Ip Man 2 6. Kick-Ass 5. Inception 4. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World 3. The Fighter 2. The Social Network 1. The Town
I still got to see True Grit, 127 Hours, The Fighter, and Let Me In among a few others. Also I really want to see the Social Network again 1. Toy Story 3 2. The Social Network 3. Black Swan 4. Inception 5. Scott Pilgrim 6. The Town 7. Shutter Island 8. How to Train Your Dragon 9. Kick-Ass 10. The Other Guys I love all 10 of those. The first 9 were really hard to choose the order of. Been a pretty good year for films.
1. Pirate Radio 2. Megamind 3. Kick-Ass 4. Inception 5. Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader 6. The Town
Thanks for this thread, OP. There are a lot of movies this year I never got around to seeing. I'd like to catch up in the coming weeks.
It's a hat trick, man, if you liked the first 2. Very satisfying end irregardless of the format you view it on.
1) Inception 2) Toy Story 3 3) The Town 4) Kick Ass I have not seen a lot of movies that have come out recently (december) that i need to see yet. But so far, those are the best Shutter Island was ok, but very predictable, just an average movie. 127 hours was also overrated
I did not see it in 3D, so that had nothing to do with it for me. The movie was just great, as good as the original
