http://gizmodo.com/5717309/what-happens-when-you-steal-a-hackers-computer Meet Melvin Guzman. He somehow ended up with a Mac stolen from Zoz, a rather crafty hacker who happens to love that computer "like his firstborn." Here's a hilarious account of what happened—complete with some poorly censored nudity. Skip to the 3:15 mark: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/U4oB28ksiIo?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/U4oB28ksiIo?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
The guy is a good story teller. It's not 21 minutes if you skip to the 3:15 mark where the story starts.
Was the guy that was using the computer at the time even the same person that stole the computer? If the theft took place in Boston, it would be more likely that the thief lives in Boston... not Las Vegas.
Ok I humored OP's lazy post without cliffs and watched most of the video Saitou nailed it. The Australian tried to pin this on Melvn, when in fact he probably just bought it off some website.
I agree with saitou. Zoz probably embarassed some guy that bought it from the real thief. I don't really see the point of somebody stealing a PC in Boston for their personal use in Las Vegas. Do they not have Macs in Las Vegas? Once the police question the guy and check the ownership history, they might be able to find the real culprit. Zoz mentioned that he never found it on ebay or craigslist, but he may have only been searching for Macs sold in Boston. The original thief could have sent the PC and other stolen goods to a friend on the West coast to ebay the item.
Sorry, next time I'll edit down the YouTube videos to a :30 or :45 second clip so you can get back to your more pressing issues.
That was awesome. And I'd never want to be anywhere near a Def Con with a computer. lol. I kinda feel bad for the guy if he didn't steal it, but just bought it. Can't believe he didn't wipe the drive first. Of course, if he was on unemployment, maybe he couldn't afford a new OS X copy. Who knows. I wonder how liable Zoz is if it turns out the guy that has it isn't the guy who stole it?
Give a summary? I posted a video. The whole point of the thread is the guys long desription of what it took to track down his computer. The length is on there. If anyone feels it's too long, move along and go to another thread.
Regardless of whether he actually stole it or not, he knows it's stolen. It came with all of somebody elses stuff loaded on it, and new programs can't be installed because he doesn't know the Admin password. If he didn't steal it and if he doesn't know that it's stolen, then he's a straight up r****d.
