[Chron] Rockets likely have to acquire a "lousy contract" if they want a Center

    fail!
We have plenty assets to get in on a deal for something like nene or any upgrade at the C, it doesn't HAVE to be a star to get us what we need, which is just rebounds and defense

If you are referring to the Andersen trade exception, that was used to absorb Terrence Williams's salary.

For me it is quite clear what Centers can/will DM go after, but let´s start with the ones that we can trade for, but will not because they are or too old, or have huge salaries.

Nene, will not be traded by Denver, and IMO, he is not the answer at the C spot, he is solid, but he is what he is, not great not bad, and with a big contract for 2 more years.

Camby, Dalembert, Haywood, simply too old, and when I say too old I am not talking about the number, I am talking about what they used to be, plus some bad contracts

    Okafor, Kaman pure nasty contracts.

In my opinion there are only 4 options, and one of them is almost closed.... Gortat, Thabeet, Cousins, DeAndre.

Gortat, I think it is almost impossible, simply because there is no way Phoenix helps us getting better, and subsequently getting themselves out of the playoffs. I only see PHO letting us net Gortat if we take Childress loooong contract, in 2 separate deals. I know the TE is used for the "lousy contract", but because the TE we have is 6,322,320, and Childress salary is 6,500,000, we have to use the TE to absorb Gortat contract, and the players that supposedly are as valuable as Gortat for Childress, I doubt Morey takes that Childress 5 year 6,5M contract.

Thabeet, I think that his situation doesn´t fit in the description Jonathan described, the only "lousy contracts" they have are expirings, and probably Conley, so only if the Grizzlies quit on him so early after they signed him big (they actually should do it) and play OJ at the 1 spot (but that will not happen). But that Conley contract is just nasty big, no way Morey touches that.

Cousins, I know people thinks this is impossible, but I see them trading Cousins if we bring Francisco Garcia 6M 3/4 years contract with him. I think they understand that they will never control him, they can lose a bad contract in Garcia, and acquire the PG they want badly (AB), without risking letting him go to Free agency.

DeAndre, I know some people think this guy is a scrub, but if I am Morey I would go for him. And the reason is simple, his market value is low right now, and the "lousy contract" we would absorb, probably would be Ryan Gomes/Randy Foye, and both of them don´t have nasty contracts, they are bad, but not THAT bad.

This is all speculation, so take it as it is..... and let DM go to Work ;) ;) ;)

If we get someone who is not much better than Miller and Hill, then it's not worth it. I think we should be patient waiting for the right deal for the right center. No need to rush. Our center position is not the weak link. The SF is.

The names being bandied about on the first page (Brand? Nazr? Camby?) depressed me so much I shall neglect to read the rest of this here thread.

I think the Center is the issue. SF just got a potential upgrade with Williams. We need someone who will clog the paint, get rebounds and alter shots. Without that our perimeter defenders will not be able to defend as aggressively, and we all know that defense wins championships.

Zaza Pachulia. He's getting low minutes in ATL. He's a gamer. And a fit for Adelman's system.

I agree. Adding a player who's not much better is utterly useless and taking a step backwards. Like i keep saying. Why not trade value for picks? Scola, Martin, Brooks for picks? Then clear the cap space for 2012. To me this sounds better then trying to add a player who will take your team backwards. Trust me Scola/Martin/Brooks are probably at their highest value point. And those three core pieces ain't going to win jack S*** that's a given.

    NENE! NENE! NENE!

    :)

Travis Outlaw is probably the crap contract they are talking about. That thing is freaking scary...

I would like to agree with you but can't. Chuck plays OUTSTANDING defense but he isn't a great rebounder and can't block shots which causes way to many second chance points and layup drills for the other team. Shane has been playing better and while I do believe his position is due for an upgrade whether it be via trade or T-Will, he has been playing well enough to not be so worried about that position for now.

Morey MUST get us a center and fast because once we get in the hell month, the team will need a big body that can rebound and protect the rim or it could be a LONG stretch. I do, however, agree that if the upgrade isn't better then those two then just wait and see what else might develop.

Not my money, the Rocket's are getting rich by having insurance pay for Yao's contract.

They can afford to ABSORB a contract if they really are serious about winning.

GET US A SHOT BLOCKING CENTER !!!

    ABSORBTION FTW !

We can skate into the playoffs with what we have, plus the obligatory brilliant DM move or two at the deadline. Once we get there, Hill will already be as good as these upstanding citizens that everybody is talking about: Gorcin, Nazr, Thabeet, etc.

Again, Hill will be as good as any of these guys by the time the playoffs start. Mark my words.

Hayes is not a center. That's why I am not including him in my list. If you want a shot blocking center like Camby, Hill is that guy. He is a shot blocker and not a bad rebounder. He just needs to be more consistent and more experienced. If you want a center who is good at both ends, then you are talking about an all star or borderline all star. That's a semi-pipedream.

Would be great if we could get in the mix of NJ and Denver Anthony Trade and sweeten it up some with our picks, AB, Batman, JJ to pry out Brook Lopez or Nene

I don't remember where I read this but I remember reading that Memphis wants to trade Thabeet in order to create cap room to sign Gasol to a bigger contract so maybe the Grizzlies would take Thabeet straight up for Jeffries or maybe a TE...
