When I first read that cuttino is leaning on going to toronto I felt as all here that it was a step backwards on the rebuilding plan,I love cat and think he is a very good player with "potential" to be an all-star, but we have to be optimistic if this actually happens. If he chooses to leave we cant be mad or feel betrayed by him because he is just doing what's best for him as shandon and steve did the past year.

Here are some positives that can come out of this:

-More playing time for anderson. When Francis sprained his ankle for like 3 or 4 games this season, who stepped up?That's right, shandon provided offense as well as his great defence and proved us that when given the chance he can score and develop more.

-2001 draft. This departure actually affects a lot next years draft. Our pick next season would be top 13 with or without cat, that we all know, but now it will be much higher because cuttino next season's record will be worse and it wont be tanking. With that pick in such a deep draft we can select a PF to be the second superstar along steve, but the other picks are affected the most.Unless there's a huge miracle or injury, milwaukees pick should be around 15-20,that pick will be very important to us.With cat here, rudy could feel preassured not to take a Sf(as this year)that would take away from cats playing time, but now the time would be available for other player, who?Terrence morris is supposed to go around there and he fits this team perfectly,he brings defence,is tall, can score when needed and the best thing is he is also(as cuttino) very close to Francis so he can complement him without caring about being the 3rd or 4th option.

-The last point would be that next year we would have 4.1 mill more in capspace to spend on filling holes or even if its possible, sign one of the FA prizes.

Sorry if it was a long post but I just wanted to make everyone feel better about this,it wont be so tragic for our future.(ok,it also helped me practice for my english essay's [IMG] )

I dont think that the Rockets would have been in the top 13 in the lottery with Cat next year. I mean, they sure could be, but I think that they would make the playoffs as the 7th or 8th seed. They were playing so well towards the end of the season... they beat teams that were contending for a playoff spot... and they pulled through in a lot of close games. With all the success they had at the end of last season, I think they would have had a pretty decent season next year WITH CUTTINO.

who would go out of the playoffs to give hte spot to the rox?

    SA-No
    LA-No
    Por-No
    Pho-No
    Minn-No
    UT-No
Sea-They actually improved in the draft and it seems rashard is staying so NO
Sac-I dont think so but lets say they do

OK,6 spots are taken unless something drastic happens with 2 to fight for against:Sea,Sac,Dall,Den,Van which all have improved during the offseason so really our chances to advance are very small.

And when Shandon hurts himself, who's going to step up? That's right. I have no idea.

I'm sure you meant SG and not SF. Rudy likes Cat and he likes Shandon, I doubt he'll be pressured to do anything... again. *ahem*

Nice point if it's true. I don't follow player contracts, but I'm sure one of the capologists out there will correct you if you're wrong. I hadn't thought about this.

Trust me, if you think this was a long post, you haven't seen anything... I remember this guy on the BBS named Popeye... [IMG]

Guys if he leaves then good luck to Cuttino. You really can't be mad more money, closer to home and play with the biggest named player right now(TV exposure). I mean Lakers were on TV every Sunday and Toronto will be this season also. If he leaves where does that leave us(backup shooting guard). I know Drew is being shopped because he wants to get PT and we want to get a good role player or something like that.

If Cuttino leaves us because he wants more money and media exposure, we should be mad. That's called selling out.

If Cuttino leaves because he wants to be closer to his family, then good for him. Afterall, it's not like any other player in the NBA has to put up with playing far away from home or the risk of being traded even further away in the blink of an eye...

Gosh... that sounded extremely cold-blooded. Sorry. [IMG]

Some of us who think Cuttino leaving the Rockets might be a positive, are just messed up in the head.

Clutch9495-No, it doesn't. We're well over the cap, that it doesn't matter.

Cuttino opens up a lot of money of the 01 free agency. If we go without any signings, and manage to lose Walt, We could have around 25 million in cap space. Plus 2 top 15 picks (assuming Tim Thomas leaves Milwaukee....which it seems to be possible.)

DoD,I will just try to support my opinion, after all I am just trying to be optimistic.

"And when Shandon hurts himself, who's going to step up? That's right. I have no idea."

And when Kobe injures himself, what will the lakers do?Injuries may cause problems on any team, but looking at that right now is being just WAY pessimistic.

"I'm sure you meant SG and not SF. Rudy likes Cat and he likes Shandon, I doubt he'll be pressured to do anything... again. *ahem*"

No,I did mean Sf because cats agent threatend to go away if we drafted a SG/SF type player since most of his playing time was along shandon at the 3,so if we have a legit SF shandon would be playing the 2 and cat would be riding the bench.

"Nice point if its true. I don't follow player contracts, but I'm sure one of the capologists out there will correct you if you're wrong. I hadn't thought about this."

I think it is true, and Nikestard has allready supported my comment.

    "BTW, nice post."

    Yeah,I know [IMG]

RocketGuard, all I have to say is 'Ouch".

If he leaves here, then he is an idiot. This is his chance to be a legend in the city you started in like Hakeem. And to play along Francis your whole career would be great. If the money means that much to some...

I don't actually think Utah is a lock as a play-off team. Stockton is starting to suck badly, Malone wants out, they have Greg Ostertag......ummmm what else.....So really you look at Utah and look at the Rockets, which is the better team?

The Lakers have at least 3 legitimate SG/PG or SG/SF players that could get increased minutes. If Kobe goes down, Ron Harper and Bryan Shaw can take some of the load. Even Glen Rice can play in the backcourt (if you don't mind having no defense back there). They also drafted Corey Hightower to play in the backcourt. Kobe's time at SF can be taken over by Robert Horry, Rick Fox or the newly-drafted Mark Madsen. Are these guys as good as Kobe? No. Are most of them viable NBA players? Definitely.

Let's look at the Rockets. We lose Mobley and Shandon's PT is increased. Who are his backups? How about Bryce Drew at the SG? Huh? Right. How about Moochie Norris at PG and Steve at SG? Of course not, that would destroy everything Rudy's tried to build with Francis. The fact is, at this point we have no one viable at SG to back up Shandon in case Mobley leaves. We're also over the cap, which won't make it easy to replace him (yes, we could use the exception, yada, yada but why waste it on a backup player?).

Then we've lost Cat, because I don't see Langhi exactly banging bodies with the PF's in this league for long. From everything I heard, he has the body and skills of a SF. Either that or Rudy doesn't think Langhi will make the team and has told Cat so.

As a matter of fact, here's a question and Rudy T's answer in the post-draft press conference :

If you had to nail down one spot, which position would Dan play?

Tomjanovich: I had an interview with Dan and this is what I talked about, although these things can change, that right now he is a small forward but I think with some work, in a couple of years he could possibly play some "4" also.

Gosh, we passed on Desmond Mason, Courtney Alexander, or that kidd out of Depaul, just to please Mobley the devil.

If you want to believe Rudy, here's another quote from his post-draft press conference :

One position that we were not going to take a player was at the "2" because we've got really good "2's" on our team. We had to go through all of the discussion on that, and the staff did a tremendous job. We talked about a lot of things, being ready for that big decision. But the draft took care of that for us, those guys were gone.

    POSITIVE???

When is the organization going to make some intelligent moves? THE FRANCIS DEAL seems lopsided but COME ON...VANCOUVER GOT MICHAEL DICKERSON...NOW THEY JUST SIGNED STROMILE SWIFT. IMAGINE HAVING FRANCIS AND DICKERSON...Vancover would have taken somebody else at the time. Now they have MIKE BIBBY, DICKERSON, STROMILE SWIFT, SHAREEF and BIG COUNTRY...THE STUPID GRIZZ WILL BE BETTER THAN US NEXT YEAR.

I see no positives (short term.)

AND yes I know you posted positives INCLUDING LONG TERM.

    IT's BEEN TOO LONG.. [IMG]

Who knows though...We could be bad enough to win the 2001 lottery.

Whats making this even harder too swallow is that Desmond Mason, Courtney Alexander, and that kid Redd from Ohio state are all tearing it up so far in the summer leagues.

Mobley has a guaranteed starting position, a higher salary, and place thats closer too his family. Mobley is going to do whats best for mother and child, not Rudy and Carroll.

I dont know if Rudy and C.D were taking all these options in consideration, beforehand, or not. If not, then they lacked some major foresight. If they did, then they took one hell of a gamble.

Bryce Drew your the new six man. So start to wipe your shoes, cause were going to need a high lottery pick next year; okay?
