Lots of people were great in Snatch (Dennis Farina, Clive Owen, Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham) that have been average elsewhere, Pitt's bits were amusing and probably got the film the visibility it deserved.
Pitt tries way too hard. With his movies, you KNOW he is acting. He really can't make his character feel real. This is Tom Cruise by a mile and I don't know why people are voting for Pitt, maybe cause he's had more better movies but that doesn't mean he's the better actor.
Cruise the better actor, Pitt the better movies. I like both of them though, they're entertaining. Call me crazy but I thought Pitt was great in Basterds.
Cruise is a better actor, hands down. No way Pitt can pull off as good a job acting in: - Valkyrie - Eyes Wide Shut - Rain Man - Collateral Best proof is from Interview With A Vampire. Swap their roles in that movie and Pitt wouldn't do a good job as Cruise.
When I lived in the English community in Nice, all the Brits I knew loved Snatch and said Pitt gave an outstanding performance. That's all I'm going on. I know it's not much, but I can never see Cruise giving that type of character transformation. Tropic Thunder was okay, but to me, that was mostly make-up and Cruise yelling.
Both of them are movie stars. Someone pointed out that Tom Cruise always plays the same character, and outside of Tropic Thunder, there is a lot of truth to that, but what he does, I think he does very well. Brad Pitt probably should play the same character in every role, but he has taken a LOT of risks. A lot of times, his performance is somewhat marginal, but every once in a while, he really nails it...........like in Snatch. That was a whole movie of him going further out on a limb than Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. I think history will end up being more kind to Pitt. A lot of this is from the fact that people tend to not like Tom Cruise......especially due to the whole scientology slant, but I think the fact that Pitt takes so many risks is one that will eventually pay off for him. Eventually, he'll nail a more mainstream role like he did in snatch, and solidify his place as the better actor (as opposed to the better movie star). Right now, I think it's a toss up. Pitt has taken many more risks.......sometimes there was the reward, sometimes not so much. Interview with a Vampire isn't the best comparison. Tom Cruise's typical character was well suited for Louis. Pitt ended up with the much dryer role.
Anone that has seen "A River Runs Through It", would not say such stupid ****. Brad Pitt is an unbelievable actor. Tom Cruise's best performance is "Born On The 4th Of July". No exceptions... Both are absolutely fantastic.
