Brand was #1. #2 was Steve Francis.

Add to the "bust" side: Darko Milicic.

"The next Yinka Dare" :) damn.

I think it's funny he plays well in the D league put can't do anything in the NBA at all. I know it's a big jump in competition, but there are many guys who are good in the D league who are at least decent bench players in the NBA (or at least put up adequate numbers per minute played with lesser talent)

Some guys really do just enough to stay in the NBA and make the money, but don't really love the game. It's like any job, some people just happen to have talent for something, but don't really have a passion for it. So they do the minimum to keep getting the money. Thabeet may just like getting paid to sit down on the bench.

    Horribly mismanaged his development.

    The Grizzlies coach is terrible.

The guy actually looked like he had a clue in preseason but was fouling like a mofo. Instead of building on the fact that he was playing, they tell him to stop fouling so much. Now he just spins in circles because any time he is aggressive, NBA refs blow the whistle.

This is the same coach who decided to start a garbage Xavier Henry over OJ Mayo though.

It's the Grizzlies, Thabeet is likely to be DPOY at his next stop.

    Didn't know that, thanks.

Well yeah, that does happen sometimes, just like it happened with Hill.

Well, if that's the case and they want a second round pick for him maybe we could help him develop (if he really cares about improving, and his talent level wasn't overrated in college)

A lot of people predicted that Thabeet was years aways from being ready and could be a bust before the draft and yet he still went NO. 2. The lure of a great big man never fails.

I thnk a lot of poeple passed on Whiteside becuase of what happenned to Thabeet. He was rated as lottery pick rearly on in the mocks. They both have similar size, athletecism and skillset. Whiteside is fouling and blocking his butt off in d-league now. I think Thabeet was a low 1st round oick.

I would rather get H-Dub then DaBeet though. Its just lower risk with same reward.

Agreed. He presents a low risk- high return opportunity, and DM thrives at making those types of moves.

That said, seeing as how little Hill sees the court right now, I dont see Thabeet coming in and getting more minutes than he is right now in Memphis behind Gasol. A better situation for Thabeet would be to find a team willing to commit 24-30 mins. per game on the court so that he can develop his game a little.

What theoretical team might that be?

Drafting him was stupid when you traded for a young up and coming Center like Gasol and then you add Zach Randolph to this mix.

Cleveland would probably be the ideal fit. As currently constructed, not only does the team suck, but the roster lacks potential. JJ Hickson was the big hope for the Cavs coming into the season, and he's been a major disappointment up till now.

They have an influx of role players that can contribute to winning teams, but cant do much on the Cavs. If I were Cleveland, I'd look to clean house around the trade deadline and pick up some younger players who might not be getting time on other teams.

I remember posing the question immediately after he was drafted, if you were the Rockets and the Grizzlies offered a hypothetical straight swap of Thabeet for Chuck Hayes -- would you do it?

Aside from the whole 'acquiring a #2 overall pick for asset accumulating' element, my answer then was the same as my answer right now.
