Kind of disappointing if that's the direction they are leaning with him. Wanted to hear we'd be using his contract for something a little more serious. Oh well.

 

I'm sure if Jeffries can be move, he will simply to reduce as much luxury tax payment as we can before the deadline.

 

Which is disappointing. You would think they would hold on to him to see if a bigger deal materializes before diving under the luxury tax. I hope they're saving that type of deal for the day of the trade deadline.

 

JJ is caught in a numbers game. Not a bad player to have at all, and one would be hard pressed to find a better teammate.

 

Thats what we did with JT as well, now JJ. Just goes to show their scrubness. No one wants them.

What about all those people including Jeffries in every trade proposal just because he had an expiring contrcat? He still has no value.

One would assume we would be giving up the asset plus $3 million to get under the luxury tax threshold. Think Kings, Twolves, some team under the cap that could absord his salary without sending out a salary in return.

 

He was in cus we sorta ran outta bigs on Griffin. Hayes Miller Hill both got 2 fouls.

JJ's value is primarily as a salary dump and a limited role as a defensive specialist.

This year, many teams are not chasing expiring contracts, because the free agents this year aren't Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Stoudemire.

Many teams dumped salary, last season to get such free agents. Now many teams are under the luxury tax threshold, Miami, NY, Chicago, NJ, etc, for 2012.

Cleveland and Toronto have large trade exceptions for trading Lebron and Bosh to Miami. If a team needs to dump salary dump Iggy or other good players today, they can trade with Toronto or Cleveland for immediate luxury tax relief for 2011. There is also Houston's large injury exception available for immediate relief. JJ would still count against the salary this year, even if he was waived. If a team wants cap relief now, they will ignore JJ and go after the trade exceptions and injury exceptions.

A new CBA is being negotiated to reduce salaries. If that's true, those bad contracts might not be as big of a financial drain under the new CBA. The tax relief for 2012 is not needed as much, especially if they can dump salary at the deadline for an injury exception or trade exception.

JJ's contract expired a year too late to get the most value.

If Sacramento's still way under the cap at the trade deadline, and if the Rockets can't use Jeffries in a package for a star, then a package of Jeffries (who, at the trade deadline, should have about $2.3M or less in actual remaining salary obligations) plus $3M cash might be enough to get the Kings to take him of their hands. The Maloofs are having some serious financial troubles, and that extra $700k+ in net profit would come in handy for them.

If the Rockets can avoid having to trade their 2011 second rounder (which will be the higher of their own or the Clippers') in order to be able to dump Jeffries's salary, that would be ideal.

 

Yeah - along with the Knixies #1 for Azubuike (to be bought out immediately), Randolph, #2.

 

I don't think it was the Knicks. The Rockets would not have wanted to take back players in a Jeffries trade. The Knicks would have had to trade the Rockets multiple players for Jeffries, which would have required the Rockets to waive at least one of their current players to complete the trade.
