On the ESPN home page there's a little pole for the best contemporary player other than Jordan and right now Malone is beating Hakeem by about 6%!!!

    What are people thinking???

nobody really liked Hakeem, I guess it's because he was humble and smart. They like cheering on idiots like malone.

there's nothing to do in Utah except surf the web, so naturally Malone will have more votes over a guy from such a sprawling metropolis as Houston, where people have so many other options for spending their time.

I also think that some people have a bad memory. This is what can happen if you drag a career on too long.

Karl Malone is a better scorer than Hakeem was throughout their career but not by much. Malone is not close to Hakeem's level defensively and Hakeem has two rings also. Scoreboard for Hakeem.

:( huh?.... Hakeem was the greatest. He should have retired earlier though, sad seeing him ending his carreer the way it is. Should have left like drexler and barkley did. ( well not barkley since he injured himself) but he did leave in style..

Hakeem slaughtered Karl Malone during the championship run and even outplayed him when the Jazz beat us the first time after that bearhug from Malone on Drexler.

My guess is most people who voted are relatively young. They've been watching basketball within these past 3-4 years. And to be perfectly honest, Hakeem was no comparison to Karla Malone, say, in the past 3 years. What would I vote if I were one of those young fans? Hakeem! Because I am a Rockets fan, and Hakeem has been the Rockets.

True! **** happens when you drag your career a few years too long. :(

hakeem is a top 10 player of all time, but malone is the best powerforward ever. He is probably in the same class as jhonson, bird, chamberlin and jordan. I hate to say that but he has been great for so long. If only he would have won that title.

I hate the Jazz as much as the next person.. but Karl has aged better than the dream.. but then again i'd rather have two championship rings than a long and healthy career..

Malone, unfortunately, could be the NBA's all-time leading scorer when his career is over.

Malone is not in the same class as those guys. But he should definitely get some type of Ultimate Ironman award. The way he's continued producing at such a high level for so long is amazing. But I still hate his guts.

I don't think people are judging them on how they stand all-time. I think the current level of play of the players influenced their current rating. Jordan and Malone are still above average players, while Dream had his worst ever season last year.

I get so sick of these ignorant comments about Utah. Anybody that has spent any time in Utah would know that there is tons of things to do there. That being said, I still hate Karl Malone and the Utah Jazz!

neither of them were in the espn top 50 i don't think?

malone has held a better scoring average over his career than dream but that's it. oh, malone's a better passer too. but, in their prime they were equally dominant scorers while dream rips karl a new one in every other category.

karla has also played with a future hall-of-famer for over a decade and has nothing to show for it. dream carried two championship teams on his back. it's not even close.
