Posters on this forum routinely make themselves sound r****ded, Lets use a video game to scout talent, Lets trade Scola, Jefferies and Brooks for Wallace, some of the crap people come up with is astounding
They are accurate enough to be useful. Computer simulation mode is tuned to produce realistic results, and sliders may be manually tuned if the default settings aren't to one's liking. Games are meant to be entertaining, but part of making it entertaining is putting in the time to make it somewhat realistic as well. There's a particularly big emphasis on that in sports games. Simulation can be a valuable method for making intelligent projections. Another thing that's valuable in making projections is being open-minded and getting input from a number of sources. Perhaps the Rockets have developed simulation tools, in-house, in addition to using 3rd party tools like NBA Live game engine. Maybe they had contacts within the NBA Live development team and got special insight into how to tune the game for more realistic results based on the vast array of data they have collected.
More on using NBA Live as a tool rather than as a game: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/nov/28/sports/sp-media28 [rquoter] Teams plug in to video game to evaluate talent in NBA MORNING BRIEFING November 28, 2008|DIANE PUCIN | ON SPORTS MEDIA Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey doesn't play video games for fun or fantasy. Morey uses the EA Sports NBA game for professional reasons. He uses it to help evaluate talent. Morey says he is a statistical junky, an admirer of Oakland Athletics General Manager Billy Beane and a mathematical nerd. "I've always loved numbers," Morey said. "I don't play EA Sports as a game. I use it as a tool." While the kids plug in NBA 08 to "ooh" and "aah" over how real it looks when Kobe Bryant dunks or LeBron James runs the court and finishes, Morey plugs in for more serious purposes. "Say if you're thinking about acquiring Ron Artest," Morey said from Hawaii, where he was evaluating talent in person at the Maui Classic college tournament. "On the game, you can see how adding Artest can change the dynamic of your team. You can program it to run offensive sets with Artest and any combination of your players." Morey said that even this early in the season, there are enough statistics available to evaluate rookies such as Minnesota's Kevin Love (from UCLA) and Memphis' O.J. Mayo (from USC) "For example, you can tell how often, if Love throws an outlet pass, how often his team scores on the possession," Morey said. "You can tell how often Mayo goes right versus left, how effective the team is with Mayo pulling up and shooting versus when he pulls up and passes instead." According to the NBA, about half the teams are using the video game as part of personnel evaluation. In the quiet of his office, Morey said he can see how often a player posts up and gets shots on cuts to the basket as well as about defensive and offensive tendencies. So what is Morey doing in Maui? Just sipping mai tais on the beach? "Simulation is great and will have a bigger and bigger place in the process," Morey said. "But at the end of the day you can't simulate a player being out too late the night before or his body language on the bench or how he interacts with teammates. Some things you have to do in person." Especially if the games are in Maui. [/rquoter]
Perhaps Morey consulted the Oracle of Delphi and was told that T-Will will be the Face of the franchise in a few years and that Him AB and Yao win the Championship in 2013
terrence willaims cant possibly be that bad of a shooter if he hit halfcourt shots at the buzzer twice last year.
T-will has the talant to be the best player we have.if I were RA I would play him at the 1 on offence and 2 on defence.but someone has to go and I think it will be kmart.
Since we throw our crazy trade ideas I may as well put in my thoughts 3way deal Houston, Charlotte, Chicago Houston gets: S. Jackson Chicago gets: J Jefferies, Ish Smith Charlotte get: Kyle Korver, James Johnson our line up Brooks/Lowry Kmart/Lee/Jackson/Williams Jackson/Battier/Bud/Williams Scola/Miller/Hayes/Patterson Hill/Hayes/Miller Hey it worked in the trade machine and on the video game why not in real life!?
Chicago gets someone to hold down the 5 while noahs out and it expires at the end of the year and a player to develop for the backup pg spot, Charlotte gets a Shooter and a prospect we get Jackson FTW
how about...TAYSHAUN PRINCE?? he's been playing great this year. last night he went for 28/12/8 and 3 blocks. i'm sure detroit would trade him for some young talent and future picks.
What's Terrence WIlliams' standing reach? If you're 6'6, sturdy build, and you're a plus-athlete, that's decent size at SG or SF. Last I checked, average height for SFs was 6'7.
I think he can play the 3, but I think he's better suited at the sg. He's very explosive and very athletic. His athleticism trumps bud's because of his lateral movement and suddeness. Ideally, as I said earlier, he's a sg. He's kinda in the jason rishardson role whereas a guy like Q-Rich is more of a sf.
I can tell you all now that Williams is going to be bringing the ball up the floor as the point for Brooks and Lee.
I really want to see this kid play, hopefully tonight against the warriors RA will allow us to catch a glimpse of this kid's talent.
