Tragic, Yao had the skill and the talent to give even Hakeem and Bill Russell a run for one of the greatest centers. Now he will probably go down in history more for his ethnicity then his on court contributions.

I sort of hope we resign him at a reduced contract, once (or if) he actually gets the foot thing healed, I have no doubt he will be dominant force in the NBA again.

Um no. Great guy and a good player but had issues which opponents exploited to their advantage.

I've purposely stayed away from this thread for a number of reasons, won't go through them all but it's time for my .02. I haven't read one post in this thread and may not for a longtime.

Anyone bashing Yao should be horse whipped. Yao has given everything you want from a player on your team, work ethic second to none, Total team guy, always left it on the court, a person to be proud of off the court as well while putting up big numbers. Disappointed? Yes. I will never fault Yao or the team for trying to do the right thing by believeing in Yao and hoping for health. Yao was always easy to root for.

The injuries are not Yao's fault, how could they be? All Yao ever did is what was asked of him. Yes it's sad his body has broken down for possibly the last time. I'm sure it pains him more than anyone, all he's ever wanted was to win for the orginization, his teammates and this city. Sadly, Yao's body has not agreed with his mindset.

So it seems, yes it's time to move on. Some have wanted to move away from the Yao era for quite a while, I was not one of them. Though the writing appears to be on the wall, it's still a bitter pill to swallow. The team must come first, you must disconnect yourself enough to know the team is what matters most.

If it is indeed the end of Yao's future with the Rockets, I'm not going to fill my head with what ifs. I'm going to always appreciate what Yao brought to the Rockets and this city as a player and more importantly as an incredible human being. I will always be proud to say Yao is, was and will always be a Houston Rocket. Thank you Yao for all you've given. I'm sure there are many more that appreciate you as I.

    Excellent post

It's amazing how many stupid fans are both blaming turning their backs on him after all he's given to us. I'll forever support him.

I figured this would happen again. I honestly could care less about making the playoffs this season. This season is done and it is time to TANK! We need to start thinking about the future and that is obviously a future without Yao being the main focus of the team. We'll probably end up using him like Vlade towards the end of his career which was very serviceable. Let's stop dreaming about the playoffs but look towards a championship. This team is not even close to Championship ready. Let's aim for a star to build around. I am not talking about Aaron Brooks or Kevin Martin who are very good role players but a true Star!

The Western Conference is actuall weak this season compare to previous seasons. Only 5ive teams,Lakers,Mavs, Spurs,Jazz and Thunder are guaranteed a spot. That left 3 spots for teams like us, the Rockets. Teams like Hornets(Chris Paul oneman team), Denver(Crymelo saga), Suns(without Stoudamaire), Blazers(injuries) and young teams like Grizlies n warriors all have their share of problems like us. So the playoffs are very much reachable with our depth!

You gotta be joking. Yao was'nt even the best Center of his size or era. Sabonis in his prime would run rings around Yao. As would have sampson if it was'nt for the INJURIES. YAO GOT BUSTED UP BY A 44 YEAR OLD oLAJUWON during those workouts they had. Olajuwon a run for his money? HAHAHAHA.

Thank you Yao Ming for doing everything you can for 2 selfish countries. They treated you as if you where a 6 ft point guard instead of a 7'6" dominant center who's body needed rest.

Shame on the Rockets (JVG, Training Staff, Doctors, Rick, etc) and Chinese Basketball (no way China, with Yao was going to win an Olympic medal). Both teams used Yao to the limit without paying attention to the history of big men over 7'2". I can only image if we played Yao 30 - 35 minutes a game while putting a capable team around him, allowing him to rest appropriately.

Thank You kind Sir and I wish you the best.

    So...

We give THIS GUY a nice position with a nice salary and part ownership...and he did what for the team?

And Olajuwon gets what again? Robert Horry got what? And Rudy T. is happy with his share of que? And Clutch Mario Elie is involved in what capacity? Oh...remind me again how Kenny Smith is representing how again?

Sorry...just have a bad memory at my old age.

No one was holding a gun to Yao's head when he played for either side, Yao had also no problems cashing our checks, so I don't see how either side is at fault here. By the way, don't you dare blame this team for not assembling the right parts around him. That's an insult to this current Rockets team, and the ones before it.

Its been fun Yao. You and SF3 are a big part of why I'm a rockets fan.

Will we get a medical exemption for Yao now? How much will that be and what could we do with it? Can it be added into a trade package?
