I just want to get your guys opinions. I think he'll be back, because of his passion, his loyalty to team and the fan, his dedication to the game, his work ethic, he likes to win a championship. These are all good reason that Yao could be back next season. On the flip side, he's 30 years old. He has some time consuming rehab and several surgery, he's probably always going to live with the stress of big frame of his. No matter what happens, I think Yao has been representing Chinese people and Rockets well. Wish him all the best.
I think he will be back but not next year, this might take a good while. 10 months to get back on the court but also consider his prior injury, they will take this VERY slow. I think we will see him again in 2012-13 at the earliest.
Yeah he is. I mean besides greg oden who else has had consecutive back to back seasons missed. I mean the guy is damaged goods. No wonder boozer killed him smh lol and people bashed mcgrady. Now we all know the truth that BOTH of them are no good for the rockets. Mcgrady got shipped outnow its time for Yao to get the.boot also
It took him 18 months of rehab to come back from major reconstructive surgery. Think about it. Day after day of tedious, repetitious exercises to fortify his lower extremities, only to have another season-ending injury after a measly 7 games. Yao should retire. The prospect of using a walker, cane, or worse, wheelchair as he gets up there in age is a real possibility that Yao needs to confront. Definitely not worth playing for.
When it comes down to the subject of him being done with basketball, I would say that he's done with that sport as far as playing in the NBA is concerned. If he was going to have a much longer pro basketball playing career, it would have to be somewhere overseas, including China. The reason being is that the playing schedule would be less demanding for him overseas than it is in the NBA.
He should listen to his body. If he wants to live as normal a life as he could, he should get the surgery, just retire from pro basketball and raise his family. He said he wants to be able to play basketball with his kid/s. Saving his feet from further damage should be his priority. Look at John (?) Walton, played just one season although he won the championship in that year, then injuries forced him to retire. These things happen; no shame that his body gave up on him and no regrets too because he gave it all he got every year he was with us and with the Chinese national team. He should still be able to get endorsements or advertisements as a global icon. He'll know how good his management team is.
Just retire and sign as a coach. Les could use his $$$-generating ass and Yao could still be evolved in Rockets basketball.
i think he's done. his foot obviously can't handle the pressure that it is put under to play the game. i can see him staying in the basketball business though as he is the main ambassador for the nba to china
I may be in the minority, but "No, I don't think Yao's Done." And I say so not for reasons of wishful thinking but because Yao will heal. How long it takes, I dunno. But ultimately, when he IS healed again, teams will no doubt take a look. If the Rockets don't re-sign him for something reasonable, I think he'll become a journeyman like Antonio McDyess. He'll never see the spotlight again like he did in Houston, but imho he could be, (and yes, don't laugh), a legitimate 6th man as a backup center. Limited minutes. Productive minutes. Heck, maybe he even "spots" for someone like Dwight Howard Legit backup center. ...but all that presupposes that Yao not only heals, but that he himself is willing to play. He may retire for all I know. But I get the sense that Yao is disappointed by the very fact that he hasn't really been able to "do more" which is obviously contingent on him "playing more." That hunger to play again will drive him. That and I think, culturally, he will be willed on by his Chinese fans. And I mean that in all seriousness. I once thought injuries to: Antonio McDyess Xavier McDaniel Bernard King Larry Bird marked the end. But they each had a curtain call!!!! -OffHisRockerSAGE
He won't be the most dominant center in the NBA again like he was before all the major injuries. But he's definitely NOT DONE. He can definitely still play in the future.
When you get injured after just 7 games after all the rehab and everything - I just can't imagine how you can think you can come back again. His feet simply can not withstand the punishment. If it was always there for the past few years and they just found it now - that would be one thing. But if it's a result of the injury a few weeks ago...I mean, what would make someone thing that this just wont keep occurring and ocurring. It's a shame, and it just goes to show how sad it is. T-mac and now Yao. They may not be done as players, but it's hard to see how they will every be a Rocket again.
No. If you're playing him 24 minutes a game, taking nearly all precautions, and he still gets injured... then he's done. He can't perform in this league if they be too careful and only let him play 6 minutes a game, and he obviously can't handle playing basketball for an extended period of time. Retire Yao. You've had a decent career.
Hard, but true to be said, Yao is done. Again, i have to question about our medical staffs. we have told we've got the best medical teams. However, resumes of those staffs do not impressed me at all. Comparing to Sun's, i don't believe it just is lucky for Sun's player. Grant Hill? Shaq? Nash, that level at this age? ..... come on. For me, I just don't believe...
