Well, I think there was a team in the ABA called the Denver Rockets, but I don't think it was the same team. I think only SD and Houston, AKA Clutchcity are the only cities they've been in.

Well, define "Been in." The club has only ever had two cities in their name (San Diego and Houston), but during the early years after the move, before the construction of the Summit (later "Compaq Center"), they would play up to a third of their "home games" throughout the state and region wherever they could get an arena for the evening :)

Not really. I think the name is the only relation. I forgot where they ended up. They may just be the Nuggets way back when. Oh yeah, I think Moses played for them. That could be a similarity. :D

I know the Rockets played a game or two up in Waco, TX once. I'm a baylor student so there's a special place in my heart for the old school rox who passed through this otherwise boring town.

Correct. An unnamed expansion ABA Franchise was awarded to Kansas City in 1967, and moved to Denver before they could play a game. The Franchise became the "Larks" for a season, then were the "Rockets," and eventually the Nuggets (a season or two before they joined the NBA in 1978). Moses Malone did not play in Denver, but one of their stars was a fellow named Ralph SImpson.

The San Diego Rockets were an NBA expansion team in 1967 (so they got the nickname first :), and moved to Houston four seasons later.

Moses Malone was acquired from Portland, I believe, where he was backing up Bill Walton.

Here's where Moses Malone played from straight out of high school:

    ABA's Utah Stars (1974-75)
    ABA's St. Louis Spirit (1975-76)
    NBA's Buffalo Braves (1976-77)
    NBA's Houston Rockets (1976-77 to 1981-82)
    NBA's Philadelphia's 76ers (1982-83 to 1985-86 and 1993-94)
    NBA's Washington Bullets (1986-87 to 1987-88)
    NBA's Atlanta Hawks (1988-89 to 1990-91)
    NBA's Milwaukee Bucks (1991-92 to 1992-93)
    NBA's San Antonio Spurs (1994-95)

    He never backed up Walton.

Moses was a starter in the pros from day one, may have been only 18 yrs old. Never backed up anyone until late in his career.

Here is a list of arenas I know of in which they were a home team for more than one game (except preseason of course).

    San Diego Sports Arena
    Hofheinz Pavillion
Hemisfair Arena (yes, San Antonion, egad!)
    The Summit/Compaq Center

I believe they also played games in the Astro Arena the Sam Houston Coliseum. Not for sure though. Agreeing with a previous post, they also played home games in Amarillo, El Paso and a few other towns in Texas. I guess they were the Texas Rockets at first. lol
