Doctors have to see patients in order to prescribe medication, order lab tests, xrays, or any other exams.

I paid $85 yesterday for my wife's doctor to take 10 minutes and write up another prescription for a medication that she's already on.

What outpatient doctor charges for a lab slip in addition to the consultation?

Don't take this the wrong way but you really don't know much when it comes to physicians.

Being a physician is very political. Physicians work hospitals, pharma companies, lab companies, and etc. They work together. I'm not saying all physicians receive any money directly because of the stark laws but there is certain ways these folks with together. Recommending each other is one of the main things these guys do.

More visits = more money ... especially on simple checkups that only require a few minutes of the doctors time.

More money = high health insurance premiums.

Im finding myself trusting younger doctors more than the older doctors. The key is finding a doctor who loves his field and continuously strives to educate himself further.

"It goes without saying that..." - and then it gets said.

    ;)
Good for you. I would think that "good-looking" anythings (doctors, lawyers, police officers, physicians, etc. - except for celebrities) aren't good at what they do because they care more for how they look than for the quality of their work. IMO.

ALSO: Use the [thread] code, man. It links to the thread on the SAME server, not on ".com" where it seems like we're in a different site.

All you need is the number of the thread inside the start and end [thread] tags. BOOM, we're sent to the thread... on the same server that has the tags.

You dont take this the wrong way, but I am a physician. I have been practicing for the last 6 years here in houston.

I can tell you this though, I have never received a single dollar from anyone for writing a prescription or ordering a lab test. Primary care physicians make money by seeing patients. Thats basically it. Some non-primary care physicians (i.e. surgeons, specialists, etc...) by other means but never related to writing prescriptions and almost never related to ordering lab work.

I haven't seen a doctor in 3 years or so. If something hurts I just let nature take care of it. If it's my time to go then it's my time to go. It's like the Yao Ming situation. People aren't meant to last forever in this world. Just play and let the end come when it may.

Sorry missed this post. You are correct, you can make money from client billing in texas. You can also make money from lab work if you own your own machines. This probably does not make up a sizeable portion of most practices' income, but you can technically make money by ordering lab work in this way.
I don't know how smart it is to client bill the non-insured, and I hope the offices you work with aren't exploiting economically strapped patients in this way.

You would be amazed how many physicians take advantage of the non-insured patients especially in the state of Texas.

This also depends on how many patients a doctor sees a day. If a OBGYN doc sees 45 patients a day and does lab work on 35 of them, they're going to make a lot of money.

Client bill should be banned just like California.

You're not going to receive a single dollar directly because of the stark law but there are certain perks physicians get by writing prescriptions. It's called ePre and especially the reimbursement on medicaid patients.

A lot of folks here on this board don't understand Stark Laws but since you're a physician, I know you have a great deal of knowledge about it.
