Lotsa love to the guy, I really believe that the guy tried everything within his power to preform well for this team. When he was on he was one of the best. Its sad for it to end like this.

well, thats it.... his career is done. im no longer considering yao in ANY future rocket plans. its time to look for another star to build around whether its the draft or free agency.

Hayes has little to no trade value, and since we're going to have to rebuild, it would be wise to keep some veteran presence around to be examples for the young guys. Battier can be traded in the right deal, but I wouldn't mind seeing him brought back for cheap to come off the bench and provide leadership.

I think it would be stupid to go the Clippers route and just throw a bunch of young, raw talent out there and pray that they grow up and develop chemistry.

I feel so sorry for Yao. While I think it's in our best interest as a team to move on, I hope we can all agree that Yao didn't deserve this fate. By all accounts, he's a good teammate and, more importantly, a good man.

He tried as hard as he could, and you can't say enough good things about his attitude and effort.

If this is it... good luck Yao. May you find in your post-playing career the long-term health that you couldn't find in basketball.

is this disappointing? yes. is it surprising? no.

i think most of us have come to the realization that yao wouldn't return to form after his injuries. with him being a FA, we can hopefully move on, and rebuild this team.

Why Rockets announcing this now? What can they gain?

    the theory:
Rockets want Yao can retire now, i.e, he will be a Rocket forever. Rockets do not want to see Yao and China's money go to another team.

    Eggg-sactly

The people cying and whining now are like kids who don't wanna face reality nor do they know tthe history of basketball.

These "pituitary-projects" have a limied shelf life and drafting people like him are done at your own risk.

Its not a problem if its anticipated but I dunnoi if the Rockets wanted to ever face this reality.

    We'll see....
