It's the ankle. His ankle muscle is still not strong enough yet, thus the new fracture. So he wasn't ready, after all...

I feel terrible for him. The guy has a great heart, and after what he did against the Lakers in what ended up being his last game before all of this, I really wanted to give it another serious shot at a title with him.

But now, you just have to move on. He should not be in any kind of plan for the future. If he does make his way back (he needs to just give himself a couple of years to rest it) and we happen to need a center, sign him for 1 year at the minimum and give him a shot. But do not hinge the franchise on him anymore.

What makes perfect sense is that there is no "conspiracy." He felt he was ready, ankle a little weak/funny but fine enough to come back. Team was being cautious. Then the latest MRI revealed a stress fracture, which probably isn't a huge fracture and isn't terribly painful and that's why Yao thought he was OK. But human bodies don't come with internal MRI machines.

By the way, the last diagnosis was "bone bruise." I am no physician but isn't that just a minor (micro?) form of fracture? Anyhow, it seems his size just puts too much pressure on the bones on his foot even after the re-shaping.

this is the problem...bodies have a difficult time supporting people at that size with the kind of impact NBA players put on them. we knew that going in. every player who has played at his size has seen their careers end in the early 30's...and none of those players have logged the kind of minutes Yao did here in the NBA and also in China. no way that was ever going to hold up. that's been my frustration for quite some time now. i can't imagine being surprised by this.

Yao seems like a great guy and it's too bad injuries will likely end his career.

That being said, hopefully now the Rockets will finally realize that they need to go in a new direction. We need to trade a guy like Scola, who is already in his 30s, for younger players or picks. By the time we are in position to be good again, Scola will be past his prime. It's unlikely we have any shot at convincing a big name star like Melo to come here, so rebuilding is the only other option.

Such a sad story on what could have been for big Yao had he stayed healthy. Honestly, I didn't think we'd see him play again this year anyway...but damn that sucks.

I just hope he gets healthy enough to live a pain-free lifestyle. Forget basketball at this point.

So Yao has probably played his last game in the NBA. That is too bad because he works so hard to try to come back. His body simply is not built for this game. I think it's time for Yao to call it quits. Basketball is not nearly as important as being able to enjoy a normal life without pain.

On the other hand, I'm relieved that the Rockets finally have a direction now. It is time to rebuild, if it wasn't clear earlier.

Had a solid career, time to move on obviously this team needs to be rebuilt. At least now that is clear, I have a lot of faith that Morey can build a great team now that he no longer has to worry about Tmac/Yao and their constant nagging injuries.

True, however, that was probably Yao just being optimistic and wanting to play again.
