Okay, here's my humble, humble request.

It turns out I'll be coming to Houston on the 22nd of December. Well, I've been trying so hard to get my Baltimore fiance to like the Rockets. She's coming around.

Well, today she comes up to me and says, "hey, we should go to a Rockets game when we're in Houston before the wedding" (we're getting married in Houston on Dec. 27, and we're getting into town on the 22nd)

So here's the big question, what's the best way to get game tickets? Last time I went to a game I just showed up at the Compaq Center and ended up having to buy a $40 ticket or something, which is okay, but last time I lived in Houston no one could get tickets but season ticket holders and people that camped out. I looked on the website and they only had season ticket things I could find.

Anyway, I just want my fiance to see the Rockets beat the Jazz just once before the Big Day.

    :)
    Thanks.

Okay, I just realized that I was looking on the Utah Jazz site when I was looking. They don't have single game tickets for some reason yet. (You have to understand that I live in Utah, but I want her to see the Rockets)

Hey... anyone that knows... how are the Upper Prom seats? Do they suck?

I'm thinking about the Upper Prom seats on the side, not behind the goal. (I'd love courtside, but hey, I have a wedding to pay for)

    :)
    Thanks...

    DarkHorse,

Some people like them... others don't. I think HP has season tickets up there, if I'm not mistaken. They really aren't a bad view at all, but once you've had lower level seats you won't want to go back! (I didn't)

The 46 dollar lower level seats behind the basket are the same price as the upper prom on the side, but I really prefer the lower seats. For a lot of games, the upper deck seems almost dead, with the lack of seats sold behind the baskets, and everything is just so much bigger down low. :)

Most of my seats are in row B behind the basket... at $46, they're a bargain for how close you are, and the view is very nice. I just did a search on ticketmaster.com for two tickets to that game, and there are two tickets in section 116, row J... looks pretty nice.

The sightlines in the Compaq Center are all pretty good. The only place I wouldn't suggest is upstairs behind the goals. I personally like upper bowl side, because you get a good view of how the plays form.

The Rockets are having a bit of an 'ahem' attendence problem. Last season they averaged under 11,000, in a 17,000+ seat arena. (There's a lot of things going on, not worth getting into now.) Unless it's a weekend game against the Lakers, you shouldn't have a problem, especially early in the season. Especially Utah -- they're crappy! ;)

Just go to ticketmaster, and you should be fine. Show up early if you do will call, because they have notoriously long lines.

    Dark Horse.....

Just curious, how did you come up with Dec 27 for the wedding.....

That time of year is crazy enough, not to mention planning a wedding.

Cat - I think I'm starting to lean toward the midcourt seats. I think I personally might appreciate being up close more, but she won't really know any of the players or anything, and would be more interested in seeing everything in the game. My experience with being behind the goal is that it's hard to see what's going on on the other side of the court. But I don't think I've ever been that close. Am I wrong?

dc sports - Thanks, I didn't think about the will call lines. Actually, I checked on ticketmaster today and I can get them mailed to me. That'll be fine, cause the game is pretty far down the road.

Samurai Jack - We're both still in college. I'm a senior taking a heavy load and she's a sophomore but trying to graduate a year early. So neither of us have any delusions of getting married during the school year. But we also don't want to wait till the summer, so we decided the Christmas break was our only chance. We didn't want to do it before Christmas, cause we didn't want to miss it. We're getting married Friday, having a reception on Saturday, and then going on a honeymoon for a week. We'll have another reception in Maryland right before we go back to Utah for the next semester. We're going to be busy.

    :D

In my case, it hasn't been. It's that way in football, of course, but at Compaq Center, a lower row behind one basket is really an excellent seat, imo. I guess you get a different view from the second level, since it's an aerial look at how the plays are set up, but personally I feel a lot more into the game down low. You still have a good idea of the plays being set up, but the closeness to the players makes me feel a lot more into the game, instead of like I'm watching it on TV or something. I get these seats every year, and I've never had any problem seeing the other end of the court.

I think a guy by the name of Tim on here works for Rockets Tix Sales. He can get you the code to buy the tickets early, before they go onsale to the public. It's in another thread - someone dig it up...

All the games for at least the first half of the season are already on sale, and that's all I need. But thanks.

    :)

The main thing is I have to consult with my honey so I see where SHE wants to sit... or like... if she cares...

    nice picture.

The Cat is right about the low prom being more lively and lit up. Your wife will probably like it better. With more fans, that should even out though. My problem with the lower level is I refuse to sit behind the basket. I feel out of touch with the game, but a lot of people don't mind being on the corners or behind the basket.

The upper prom is really good compared to reports from other stadiums. They are not too far away. But I like it purely because I require mid court seats. Scouts would never sit where The Cat sits. :p
