When you guys mention a 'broken record' are you referring to only this thread... or have you two focused on this before? I would just say rm95, that there is the tendency for us to monitor ourselves, but Pole, I'm not sure the PC is in the PC Policing that you're talking about (though on other subjects I agree PC Policing is rampant... and maybe here, maybe here, but...) I mean, ask yourself as I did late last night... is it harmful to ask this question? If there is a lurking lesbian on the site that enjoys looking butchy, we may have hurt her feelings. That's totally uncool. The questions are honest, but we don't usually chat about this stuff because there are real people involved... sometimes people that we do not know. That's not as much a PC policing thing as a societal thing (ie I shouldn't have written stuff about femmulletts and acid washed clothes... Smeggy just sent me a photo of himself playing basketball w/ a mullett and his collar up asking me if he's "uncool" and I feel horrible b/c Smeggy is somebody I think is really really cool. I'd hate to have screwed up the potential for that friendship. His appearance obviously doesn't matter).
Probably because lesbian women identify with the male perspective. From my observation, butch or lipstick, lesbian women should be one of the str8 guy's best friends. (Just like gay guys and str8 women interact so well.) University (It's in the jeans.) Blue
Smeggy, put that collar down! For the love of Pete! Is that an aussie thing? Did the eighties never die? We have an aussie dance instructor at the studio who's well respected. He was getting dressed in the locker, pulling on a polo, then checks the mirror and turns the collar up. Oh yeah, stylin' now. By all account you are a very cool dude, but please, shed some light on this style issue. Was Karate Kid a big picture?
It's certainly not a fact. The exact opposite, really, in every way. We call it an opinion. My opinion is the same as Rimbaud's. My wife is hot. She definitely looks better without makeup. Can you even surf with makeup on? I don't know many surfer chicks who wear makeup. Can you even go hiking with makeup on? Who knows really. No other argument here, Nomar. You like material girls. We made sure we didn't marry ones like that. I think a lot of makeup makes a pretty girl unattractive. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it . There are a lot of butchy looking girls that aren't lesbians. Some girls are just born that way. Sure, there'll probably be guys that fall in love with them. Some are even very pretty, yet, still butchy. Some lesbians are hot, yes, and some of these hot lesbians will, undoubtedly, fall in love with some of those butchy lesbians. What are ya'll arguing about again? I'll have to read the 1st page of the thread.
Damnit, why did you have to say that...I feel like an a-hole now. To use a Chandler Bing phrase -- "I guess there really is never a good time to ask that question." I mean, there are some people I could maybe pose the question to, but I would never feel comfortable doing it. Hurting feelings is definitely never cool, like Achebe said. Sooooo....where does everyone stand on the abortion issue?
i'll just quickly butt in (and butt out) on this one. do women look better with make-up? frankly i like my women without makeup... BUT... 1) there is no doubt that makeup, when properly applied, can conceal your flaws, accentuate your best features, remove symptoms from years of aging, and make ordinary women appear damn FINE (at least at first glance). even the most beautiful creatures on earth (them supermodels) use makeup. albeit, the more beautiful you are, the less you're likely to need them. i.e. if you've got perfect skin, you don't really need to moisturise. if you've got perfect color, you don't really need to apply mascara, if you've got perfect eyebrows, you don't need to colour them, etc. etc. 2) for the vast majority of women out there, good makeup, like a nice haircut or a nice business suit, gives them a boost in confidence. and a confident woman will often appear more attractive... just my 2 cents. as for Lesbians being butch... i think there is a natural polarity and complementarity in human relations. some naturally assume the aggressive, some the passive. some will be protective, some will be weak/in need of protection. this is the case in any set of human relationships, homosexual or heterosexual. in many heterosexual relationships, the reverse is often true, with a dominant female and subservient male. but in every case (whether matriarchical or patriarchical), there is always one on the top, and one on the bottom. if i remember correctly, the fact that these roles can often be reversed in the same individuals points to the fact that it seems less a genetic thing, and more likely the result of either 1) societal programming, or what i prefer, 2) natural balance and harmony. not that there is anything wrong with that...
well it seems like it's generally humorous to make fun of mating effort/signalling... so we can spin it that way and you won't feel bad at all (this is at least my new found defense so that I don't feel like a jerk )... you know how how people make fun of the extravagance of the male peacock's feathers, or the prostitute's scantily clad attire, the guy walking around w/ his biceps bulging, that whole thing. So mating effort is generally funny if you're a four year old like me.
What?? Pam Anderson doesnt REALLY look that way in real life.....talk about bringing me down on a monday morning
Two points, they have probably been made already but this is how I see it. First, lesbians that dress/look butch are gonna normally be the masculine/dominate partner and will dress that way to send the signal to prospective partners so they know what role they take. That was how it was explained to me by a lesbian friend of mine, she might not have been totally correct about all, but I believe it contains a modicum of truth to it. Second, I like my women with very little makeup or no makeup..whatever she is comfortable with. My wife looks fine without makeup and when she does put some on, it's normally just a very little to accentute her features..Fine by me, I long ago tired of kisssin makeup and gettin that nasty taste on my mouth.
Achebe.......you almost got me. I almost felt guilty, but then I realized.....I wasn't making fun of anyone. I'm simply refusing to let anyone deny that the "butch" look exists. If you don't believe me, go to yahoo and do a search on: butch femme It doesn't appear that acknowledgement of this phenomena would hurt too many feelings in the Lesbian community.
