The ability to quickly recover from your mistakes is one of the best abilities a GM can have. Everybody will make mistakes from time to time. Great GMs know how to hedge their bets and recover quickly from the mistakes they made.
Well with Courtney still in the lineup JT is unneeded. Chase sucking right now but hopefully T-will will be able to take his spot in the rotation.
Yep. This trade pushes the Rockets to more than $3.8 million over the luxury tax threshold. But, as I've said, Les is showing his willingness to pay the tax this year. If Morey and Les somehow manage to dump Jeffries at the trade deadline on an under-the-cap team to sneak back below the threshold, more power to them. But that proposition is becoming increasingly less likely. I can guarantee you that no under-the-cap team has (as of December 14) committed its cap room to absorbing Jeffries at the deadline. So Les has taken a very real risk in amassing this much payroll. (And, by the way, Williams was acquired using the trade exception generated from the David Andersen "salary dump". So much for that being Les's sole motivation.)
Hey Bima, what is your take on this trade? Since it doesn't help us out financially, do you think there is another trade stirring out there? I can't just see us trading for Williams and that being it.. Especially if we are being pushed over the tax threshold..
I don't think this trade necessarily means that another trade is coming. The Rockets are taking a chance on a very, very talented player whose team has given up on him and/or is desperate to amass future first round picks in order to trade for Melo. Giving up too early on talent and desperation. A great combination of traits for Morey to go into "predator" mode and try to get a steal via trade. I honestly believe that Les is willing to pay the tax. This trade allowed the Rockets to acquire a player who could be a rotation fixture for the next 3 years and beyond. He's willing to pay a little more tax for one year to accomplish that. As for my personal opinion of Williams, I really like the kid. I liked him coming out of Louisville and wanted the Rockets to try to buy a first rounder in 2009 to select him. He's a jack-of-all-trades kind of player who will definitely help the Rockets on the defensive end and who can create his own shot (although I wish he'd hit those shots at a higher clip). Great move. Morey rules.
We may be trading away the next Kobe Bryant. http://www.nba.com/2010/news/12/14/3-way-trade.ap/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2 "He's one of the best scorers on Earth," said Kings forward and former Rocket Carl Landry. "Jermaine Taylor, he's going to be a great addition to this team." hahahahha
I certainly think Landry's comment is overexaggerated, but Taylor can put the ball in the bucket much better than a lot of players in the league. It's just that he can't pass for diddly squat.
goodbye, JT, and thank you for your time with us ... it didn't work out with the Rockets but you kept your head up and showed good attitude, doing everything they asked you to do like move up and down to Rio Grande. Kings desperately in need of scoring. Go and teach Tyreke how to actually put the ball in the hole. Be seeing you against the Rox in a couple of games.
I actually thought he was a better player than Budinger. I dont know if this is a popular opinion, but JT was just a all around more complete player than Budinger. If anybody I'd wanna see Bud get his no defense playing ass shipped out
It sucks, but I can guess we all sort of expected Taylor to be this year's Dorsey. That being said, we are losing out, I think Taylor would have developed into a fine SG. He could probably be a more complete player then Budinger, but I am think part of the problem with him is mental and skill based. I wish the kid the best of luck... except whenever he plays against Houston.
I agree, but Adelman's system has no place for someone that won't pass (and will actually play defense). Budinger fits Adelman's system better even though I think Budinger is a complete and utter freaking joke on the defensive end and is mentally weaker than JT.
According to Feigen, really speaking we aren't getting the 2nd round pick, it's top 55 protected, meaning we only get it if the Kings are a top 5 team. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2010/12/rockets_roll_the_dice_gamble_o.html
Mark Deeks: The Jermaine Taylor trade probably won't be the only one the Kings and Rockets make this year. A Jared Jeffries deal now looks a certainty. about 51 minutes ago Read more: http://hoopshype.com/twitter_media.html#ixzz18A8s1a7j
