OK, lemme get this straight. If we miss the playoffs, we keep the pick and don't have to send anything to NJ? Morey's a genius

Question.. with the Rockets 2012 pick lottery protected.. and each subsequent year lottery protected until 2017.. does that mean that the Rockets would be UNABLE to trade their 2012 and beyond draft pick until they know they're in the lottery?

For example, let's assume that in 2012 the Rockets are in the lottery. The Nets pick is now the 2013 Rockets pick. Can the Rockets not deal the 2013 1st round pick then until they know it will also be a lottery pick, thus making the Nets pick the 2014 1st rounder?

Does this mean that the Rockets cannot trade ANY future 1st round picks before 2017 if they haven't fulfilled their obligation to New Jersey yet? It wouldn't make sense for them to be able to deal the 2015 pick tomorrow, only to go into the lottery in 2012, 2013, & 2014 while making the playoffs in 2015.

Seems like it hamstrings us a bit.

No.. if we miss the playoffs in 2012, the Nets get our 2013 1st rounder. If we miss the playoffs in 2013, the Nets get out 2014 1st rounder.. and so on and so on until 2017, which I assume is unprotected.

Hopefully Morey is playing NY off NJ, now he can go to the Knicks and get more for the return of the 2012 pick, with NJ picking up additional assets today to offer Denver.

I like TWill as a building block for a future team.. I don't think he's ready to be a big contributor right away. I've said for some time now that this team needs to rebuild.. I think Williams is a step in that direction.

I'm fine with the trade now upon hearing that the pick is lotto protected until 2017.

    Lottery protected !!

Billy king really got screwed this time if iam denver iam not taking this and a lakers first round pick which is the 25th at best ..

Twill is great pickup he has great handles and his court vision is almost better than kyle he just needs a real coach thats all ..

The Nuggets get Favors and Murphy plus 4 first round picks. 4 first round picks. That's 1, 2, 3, 4 first round picks. Add that to their own and they now have 6 first round picks. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 first round picks. And as far as the Knicks go they are not a lottery team and will get better next year if Amare stays healthy. Personally if I am the Nuggets I would have taken Terrence Williams to help replace ANthony. But they are obviously thinking rebuild mode with 6 first round picks.

Yeah me too. Nothing to lose really if the pick is lotto protected. Still though, the team needs some major changes, not tinkering at the edges. We'll see what happens.

Resarched the guy. So they are giving up on the 11 th pick in the draft after he had a great season last year? Only 10 games into this season? Sounds like a very good trade. Apparently he had issue with them signing free agents at his position and then him and coach didnt get along during first ten games. He was sent down to D league as punishment, not for his play. Then was best player in D league averaging triple double. Got traded to us before he even had a chance to play his sophomore year in New Jersey with a small sample size of 10 games and problems getting minutes with their newly signed SF free agent. Win for us. Potential is there. See why Morey would take a flyer on this guy. If he cleans up his head he has more potential than Budinger and Battier. Probably already better than Budinger.

Any chance of this deal falling apart if Melo decides not to sign an extension on his contract?

This is our 2012 pick, not the 2012 pick from NY, which we still own, correct?

And, of course, we still have our 2011 pick, which we may, at our deselection, swap with NY, correct?

Nope. Carmelo hasn't agreed to sign an extension with anyone yet. The Nets are doing this deal so they can acquire additional draft picks to sweeten the pot for a potential Carmelo trade.

    Exactly.

Would'nt it be crazy If Daryl hauls in Terrence Williams, Anthony Randolph, and Hasheem Thabeet? ;)

We need to hire some more coaches to develop these guys!!!

Alright, so our deal with the nets is pretty much a done deal, regardless of whether or not the Nets can get Melo or not?

Yup. If Melo gets moved, it will probably be closer to the deadline.
