No, I'm not saying the Rockets should leave Houston. I'm saying Houston should leave the Western Conference. We all know there's a logjam atop the West, and we're nowhere near breaking through it. We're very near something else, however: the East-West border. We and the Timberwolves are the easternmost of the Western teams. To get out of the West, all we need to do is persuade two teams in Eastern cities to move to the Western cities. I'm thinking maybe Toronto (get out of Canada), Milwaukee (get out of the Frost Belt -- we've all seen the Vin Baker ad), or New Jersey (get out of New Jersey) might be good candidates. Anyone else got an idea?
This is a great idea. The NFL borders never made any sense. Unfortunately something like this would take a minimum of 2 years. ------------------ The ClutchCity 500.

Ahh, Will, always thinking outside the box! Achebe's note about other sports is the best lead for a quick solution. Isn't Atlanta in the NFC West? (They were in the NL West for a long time, too.) A speedy reclassification is all that's needed! (And no, I'm not saying this just 'cause I'm a Warriors fan, and I'm looking to get GS a couple more games against one of the few teams we swept last year. ) ------------------
The NBA is not known to give favours to the Rockets organization, so it would be a long shot for it to move it the weaker conference. Maybe, the NBA can re-allign its conferences much like the MLB (they must be doing something right?), where there are two conferences, each with a east, west, and central division. Of course, every team would still play each other the same number of times as they do now. Other than that, the only way I can see the league moving the Rockets east is if they move to Louisville, which of course, is not what we have in mind at all. By the way Will, geographically speaking, I think Minnesota has a lot more leverage to moving to the eastern conference than us. They're about as far east as New Orleans, which, consequently, is another city thrown around for a possible Rockets destination. Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. Yeah, I know Bobbo*, I guess this slow off-season is starting to get to me. I've always been somewhere between a realist and optimist, but pessimist I am definatley not. Btw, I've had a 12 month head start on you, yet I'm still trying to catch up to you in the post count! Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. We live for the journey.
I wish chat room visits counted as posts Damn, I just noticed we are dead even in #of posts, WOW ------------------ "Get up, stand up. Stand up for your right"-Bob Marley
By the time we would be able to pull off something like that, we'll be on top of the Western Conference and everyone else will be clamouring to leave to the East. ------------------ "I'll take a Dream Shake for two, please."
